Migration complete (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Divisions by zero should feel way snappier now. Let me know if you notice any weirdness.

Unfortunately this, along with my new requirements for a paid SMTP relay has effectively tripled my costs >_< . Please help cover some of them.

You should more prominently ask for donations in any site update posts. The cost between a dedicated server and VPS is pretty big.

Yes I plan to make a site sticky soon

The server was getting do slow it's very likely it was dropping federation events

[-] Tywele@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Will things that got dropped due to this be fetched retroactively?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I'm afraid not

[-] DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

Thanks for the upgrade! Why did you need a SMTP relay?

[-] dragonfly4933@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

Probably to verify email addresses on signup.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

My provider sent me a nastygram and my new provider doesn't allow smtp at all

[-] DM_Gold@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Have a look at Contabo, they're very cheap and run by a small group of actual tech bros.

I own a dedicated server in Germany too there =)

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Lol I just switched away from contabo because they're stealing too much cpu

Really?!

Can I ask what you migrated to?

I hope not strato xD

*Edit: watch out for Dutch hosts, they're very insidious with contracts and are not shy of sending collection agencies.

How high is the monthly cost now?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

It's a bit fuzzy as some stuff are shared but getting close to 100

[-] Tywele@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

I just upgraded my ko-fi subscription :)

Wait, you’re paying money to keep this up? Damn, appreciate that man! If I can miss some money after university ends (summer break), I’ll definitely donate some.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

You think hosting is free? :D

[-] GlitchyDigiBun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

I can't see comments or replies from lemmy.world. is that normal?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Do you know if there is an issue with kbin federation? Neither my new account or new community here showing up over there on kbin.social and it’s been a few days.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

There's a reported bug in 0.18 about it. Are you subscribed to it?

[-] Meatstick@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks for keeping this place up! Best instance in the verse.
