I used to think people who downloaded videos on YouTube, forum posts with guides or useful info and other data were weird.

They were right.

With archive.org under threat some of it will be gone for good unfortunately. Save what you can when you can it might not be there later.

It's been ages since I have entered the youtube.com domain, I use the libredirect extension to go to invidious instances. Sometimes the instances are blocked and I have to try another one but its a small price to pay for internet freedom. Still, google is trying to sue invidious for using their API, which they don't, they just scrape the website, but I would like to see the bullshit google comes out with.

This is hardly the first time this sort of thing has happened. We'll probably just figure out another workaround like we have many times in the past.

I get that we all think entertainment products should be free but in a capitalist economy server space costs money. To deliver and maintain petabytes of data takes vast resources and in our society, those resources cost money. They keep it running through direct payment or auctioning ad space. So if you don’t want to get premium then they still need to pay for the upkeep of the service you’re using for free. Thus ads.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'd be happy to share the burden of seeding these videos, if they'd stop threatening us over it.

The problem is that when you pay them they still track you and still sell your data.

You can't just turn off the treat spigot. This is the kind of thing that's actually going to agitate americans politically.

Youtube with ads, single login netflix, paid social media, these places are playing with fire, lmaoo.

Amn shit is hitting the fan. Google has been clamping down in ad blockers. First with Manifest v3, then the DRM shit, killing YT mods by making it mandatory to sign-in and more.
