[-] devilish666@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago

So.... basically it's all GNOME with different ricer setup ?

[-] lemmesay@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 8 months ago

I saw zero difference between them.
ubuntu docs say gnome classic is traditional gnome version. but the only difference I saw was that the font seemed a bit bolder there.

[-] lemmesay@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 8 months ago

oh, and they were pre-installed.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 months ago

It should look closer to gnome3

[-] lemmesay@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 8 months ago

maybe it had something to with me being on 23.10 and customising it to the fullest extent?

GNOME Classic looks like GNOME 3. But Ubuntu doesnt use GNOME too, they highly modify it too.

So you dont get the best experience anyways.

One is x11 and the other is wayland. I found a difference on the value of $PATH var between them

[-] d_k_bo@feddit.de 23 points 8 months ago

And now do

sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-desktop

Gnome Classic is a good option for older people who did not grow up with computers but learned to use Windows at work. The traditional look helps them to find the programs they need while everything else is modern.

And it helps the younger people helping the older ones, because under the hood, all is new and shiny. (:

Nah, that's just one. I have GNOME (xorg, classic, Wayland), hyperland and KDE.

[-] lemmesay@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 8 months ago

I mean, that was the "meme" part about it. ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

Is there no Gnome classic on Wayland? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Maybe there is, I don't use it, now that I think about it, I can just uninstall it ๐Ÿ˜‚

[-] poinck@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago

There is; it is the one without "on Xorg"

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago

I was talking about the upper comment, not the meme itself ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿป

[-] poinck@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

Anyway, Gnome classic works with wayland, because it is just a set of extensions.

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee 0 points 8 months ago

๐Ÿ˜‚ahh, I see, never tried classic, since Iโ€™m more the top notch rolling release guy (running openSuse tumbleweed and arch on my PCs)
