Seems like everything is back to normal, at least from what I can tell on my end and a lot of other users’ reports.
Facebook engineers got mad they went down and decided to ddos the internet so they wouldn't look bad.
They still have issues registering new users. There's a recaptcha loop problem.
I was having A LOT of issues with it earlier this evening but it seems to be back to normal now
Probably due to users trying to grab their username.
I don't know... Usernames are paired with numbers, so they shouldn't be all that exclusive and hence it shouldn't trigger an avalanche of people rushing to get the username they desire.
I thought the goal of the username was to also have the ability to use Signal without any phone number at all
Nope, you still need a phone number. You just don't need to give the phone number out to contacts you want to talk with and can instead use the username.
Ah yes, I see that now by ready the blog post more carefully.
They are paired and, I think, exclusive (albeit with random numbers attached at the end so maybe meh).
Who knows... session seems interesting.
