It’s absolutely the Catholic Church. The country is incredibly Catholic. They often don’t use any form of birth control nor even tampons as it’s looked down upon. Overpopulated too

Something tells me PRE-teen pregnancies are a bigger problem than whoever's having sex with kids under-13 not using birth control.

[-] GlitterInfection@lemmy.world 24 points 6 months ago

Unless it's pre-teens having sex with each other. Then sex education, birth control and access to reproductive rights is the issue to solve.

[-] 0110010001100010@lemmy.world 12 points 6 months ago

Fuck, I read that wrong. Pre-teen would be 12 or younger right? What the actual fuck?

[-] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 7 points 6 months ago

They're the same people that oppose sex education and birth control

[-] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

Almost everywhere is overpopulated.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago

Have you been to the Philippines though? I met a guy who has 19 siblings

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

I can't imagine spending the greater part of my life pregnant and caring for one kid after another for even longer.

How... HOW DO YOU BIRTH 69 BABIES?

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 months ago

Numbers in bold and italics are likely to be legendary or inexact, some of them having been recorded before the 19th century.

But 33 though, still…

[-] goldenbug@fedia.io 4 points 6 months ago

Anything above 4 already impresses me

[-] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

I don't even want to give birth to one baby let alone an entire herd

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 months ago

(btw your reply is what inspired me to look that up - meant it as a “yes and”) :)

[-] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

Wow that's wild

[-] PaddleMaster@beehaw.org 13 points 6 months ago

I cannot believe an article like this would use the language “girls falling pregnant”. Nobody falls pregnant.

[-] sadreality@kbin.social 4 points 6 months ago

The real question is who is having sex the girls... Boys or adult men...

This fact is glossed over so I am assuming adult men, which is characteristic for insular religious communities.

So we need some rope and get the wood chipper going.

[-] PaddleMaster@beehaw.org 1 points 6 months ago

Probably both. From my limited understanding the country is so poor, sex tourism of girls (and probably boys) has become normalized.

[-] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

And usually the Telegraph is such a pinnacle of good journalism 🤔

[-] Unquote0270@programming.dev 2 points 6 months ago

They would never victim blame...

[-] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 months ago

"Girls raped pregnant"

"Girls lacking sexual education becomes pregnant"

[-] BakedGoods@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 months ago

All religions are just pedo cults.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

If the Catholic Church only had 100 000 members, it would be called a dangerous cult, with politicians calling for its ban.

The obsessively pro-life religion that also strongly shames people, while also not really caring for them either unless they contribute to the cause?
