Keep in mind that these speakers will need an amplifier to power them, so if you're currently relying on TV speakers and don't have an amplifier you'll need to get one. You would want an amp that matches the impedance which looks like 4 to 8 Ohm.

Don’t forget that you’ll need a receiver to power them. Cheap secondhand ones are usually okay but won’t have fancy features like surround sound or atmos.
I know these are advertised to get to 25hz, but consider adding a sub at some point.
Overkill is really subjective. What size is the room? As long as the space supports them, I’d say go for it.
If size is a concern, you can probably find some nice bookshelf speakers that’ll serve the purpose well.
They will do fine and should massively improve your watching experience. Don't forget you need an amplifier/receiver.
