Yeah, kinda puts paid to the idea that piracy is about sustainable, non-DRMed software for all when the one company whose niche is ensuring that such resources are available is being undermined like this.

I know this is the pirate sub, but it seems kinda rough to be undermining GOG since their one of the few that releases DRM free shit. Dont we have torrents? Why do we specifically need to fuck with GOG?

I personally went there for games I wanted to try but wasn't sure I'd like. I've purchased a few of those games later, as well. I have no problem with them, but I find myself less and less likely to buy most PC games anymore unless I try before I buy or download a demo if the game has one.

It's not a good excuse for messing with a platform like GOG, but I ain't not any better reasoning.

Thats fair tbh, while not all pirates are selfish dicks, none of us can claim to be saints, so your reasoning is fair enough to me

Is this site in any way actually "fucking with" GOG? They use their name, but if they are providing DRM free installers, what difference does it make that you get it from there or a torrent? I don't think GOG notices or suffers.

this is not the 1980s we have reliable protocols for file distribution where integrity checks and load distribution are included

ovagames has most gog games on it as far as I'm aware.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

Oh no, what happened to it?

[-] spiderman@ani.social 10 points 1 year ago

It has become invite-only site.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Damn. It was a good site that had up to date installs. Oh well.

~~gogunlocked~~ seems to match those requirements, but I came across it recently. Has anyone verified the site or its reputation?

[-] DestroyMegacorps@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 year ago

dont use that its in the unsafe category of the megathread

[-] Canary9341@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Thanks, too bad :-(

On the other hand another one I came across is on the whitelist, freegogpcgames; although the OP won't like it since it uses torrent.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Good to know, thanks

[-] ShadowCat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I'm looking for this as well, seems like there's a backup of gog-games on the megathread but of course it won't be updated... there are some other sites though like freegogpcgames and torrminatorr
