The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest of the true foxes and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere including most of North America, Europe and Asia, plus parts of North Africa. It is listed as least concern on the IUCN Red List. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included on the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".

The red fox originated from smaller-sized ancestors from Eurasia during the Middle Villafranchian period, and colonised North America shortly after the Wisconsin glaciation. Among the true foxes, the red fox represents a more progressive form in the direction of carnivory. Apart from its large size, the red fox is distinguished from other fox species by its ability to adapt quickly to new environments. Despite its name, the species often produces individuals with other colourings, including leucistic and melanistic individuals. Forty-five subspecies are currently recognised,[7] which are divided into two categories: the large northern foxes and the small, basal southern grey desert foxes of Asia and North Africa.

Red foxes are usually found in pairs or small groups consisting of families, such as a mated pair and their young, or a male with several females having kinship ties. The young of the mated pair remain with their parents to assist in caring for new kits.[8] The species primarily feeds on small rodents, though it may also target rabbits, squirrels, game birds, reptiles, invertebrates and young ungulates. Fruit and vegetable matter is also eaten sometimes. Although the red fox tends to kill smaller predators, including other fox species, it is vulnerable to attack from larger predators, such as wolves, coyotes, golden jackals, large predatory birds such as golden eagles and Eurasian eagle owls, and medium- and large-sized felids.

The species has a long history of association with humans, having been extensively hunted as a pest and furbearer for many centuries, as well as being represented in human folklore and mythology. Because of its widespread distribution and large population, the red fox is one of the most important furbearing animals harvested for the fur trade. Too small to pose a threat to humans, it has extensively benefited from the presence of human habitation, and has successfully colonised many suburban and urban areas. Domestication of the red fox is also underway in Russia, and has resulted in the domesticated silver fox.

venting about my dad againmy dad cough today sounds very bad just like yesterday. I know I vented on here before a lot, about how bad his cough is. but just. fuck it sounds bad today. and he keeps fucking ignoring me how he should get it checked since like october. since its probably related to his drinking. trying not to let it affect me, but it def. like, puts parts of me, on overdrive that something wrong and that nothing gonna be okay and why am I even bothering trying to live

and. just. I have to convince myself that it's gonna be okay. things are gonna be okay. it's gonna be alright.

had a dream about a scarface doomclone, a thing that very likely actually exists. notable feature was a difficulty/character system where you chose what era scarface you were, the UI for this was teeth, more gold for older and more hardcore

What are the "what happened to celebrity X?" Posts where people seem shock that people in their 60s look old are about? Just idiocy? Is there a conspiracy? Like do people think aging didn't exist until the covid vaccine or something?

Trying to reinstall a clean copy of windows 11 pro on my new laptop. I cannot BELIEVE how bad of an experience this is in 2024.

Windows installation media creation tool took forever and THE RESULT WASNT EVEN BOOTABLE

Running setup from the non bootable drive took forever and to make it worse, it asks questions between interminable "checking for updates" waits. And it wouldn't even let me choose an edition of windows. It defaulted to home even though I have a pro key and wouldn't let me change it. I guess because I currently have windows 11 home edition.

But like, why not just ask? (It's so the only way to upgrade is through the windows store, I bet).

The fact that Microsoft still can't do better than Linux in current year is insane to me.

Unjust Depths, just talking about our protagonist

I wanted to write a lil appreciation of Murati Nakara because she is a wonderful bean.

When you first meet her in the intro to Unjust Depths she almost seems kind of silly. The only things she really has going on are her girlfriend Karuniya, (they seem to have an uncomplicated and wonderful relationship) her skill at diver piloting and her ambition in the military. To be honest, early on I had thought she didn't really have any flaws, but she takes a good while to unfurl and bloom as a character.

Murati is not among the several autistic lesbians in Depths, that I know of anyway, but her staunch hard-headedness is very appealing! Much later in the series she's talking to this scientist lady who knew her parents, the famous revolutionaries the Nakaras, and she is borderline affronted when science lady says "Yeah they did a lot of great shit but they were mostly just oceanographers lol, idealists really" and it's borderline adorable. I can really respect how strongly she feels about her Mordecist beliefs and sense of justice. When she first steps off the Brigand and into an Imperial city, her moment of utter shock at a capitalist hellhole that leaves its people destitute and homeless is superb for her. Murati might be a military-strategic galaxybrain and a steadfast revolutionary, but she's also somewhat green, and her single-minded commitment to justice can sometimes cause problems, like she bothers Captain Ulyana for money to try to house these homeless guys in the Empire, holding up a critical extraction mission.

What I really want from her is more flashbacks, though. Stepping back in time about fifteen years and finding out that not only has Murati always been like this, but she was equally loud and brash about matters of her gender is a wonderful thing. She went from "good" to "great" though when she gave her adoptive parent Deshnov shit about his goofy-ass "allowed you to go on tbose medications" spiel.

It's fairly uncommon to see trans kids in fiction, unless it's some kind of Young Adult, coming-of-age story I guess, likely because the vast majority of trans people now still transition in their 20s or 30s. I'm weird though, and so the idea that an indignant, righteously angry 12 year old Murati had to lash out against Deshnov (and probably everybody else Idk) to get her way and be who she is? Wow, she just like me, fr fr. That's something I can really relate to, and even just hinting at that kind of hardship for her has me deeply invested basically for free. I feel a great affection for the First Officer, the Brigand couldn't ask for a better Diver Leader and I'm always excited when she is onscreen. Murati, my beloved ❀

And why do they think being radicalized is bad, anyway? How did the idea of having firm convictions and strong principles come to be so maligned? How did believing in nothing become admirable?

The Fallout TV show post reminded me of the Castlevania anime, and it really makes me happy. This is an Angry Gamer Rant so dont click if u like Castle vania.

200% MAD

You can find my fucking villain origin story on this here, but basically I've been bitter and seething, mostly alone, that Castlevania was coopted by some weird misogynist and turned into a low-grade Metroid knockoff, and now whenever I mention "Castlevania" people will come at me like OMG I LOVE DAWN OF SORROW and I have to either shut up or make them hate me, terminally online problems.

I was browsing the Castlevania reddit for a bit a while ago, and there was a surprising amount of talk about people who are buttmad that there are new fans of the Castlevania anime who have never "played the games", which in this case means anything released between 1997 and 2009. Lmao.

Just makes me very pleased, I find it funny how the Metroidvania people who rolled in and took Castlevania as a discussion point from its original fans (freakish people who like games that stomp on their balls and don't have jump control) have now had their thing stolen as a discussion point by essentially Netflix Anime fans. How you like that, fuckers?!

Easily my most gamerbrained and bitter take, but I'll never ever forgive Koji Igarashi. It fills me with glee that Castlevania only shambles on as a bad anime that half the fanbase hates, mostly people who were hoping to see terminal dipshit Soma come back. Lol, and lmao even.

While I'm on the hate train, something that strikes me perpetually as very funny is that the Koji-Igarashi-style Castlevanias never really sold that well? Which is funnier because ✨ the mythos ✨ is that Koji Igarashi REVIVED THE SERIES FROM THE BARGAIN BINS... Aside from Circle of the Moon, which had the benefit of being a Game Boy Advance launch title and admittedly a pretty good game, (also the one Igarashi didnt make lmao) the Igarashi Castlevanias would pretty consistently undersell classic 'Vanias like the first game or IV.

There's no accounting for Lords of Shadow being the bestselling one, (maybe Kojima's name?) but the sales numbers were mostly diminishing returns so it's not surprising that Konami canned the series, lel.

Hey co-workers/chef, check the walk in for stuff before putting it on the prep list and or making it, you may have to look at all of the buckets of sauce, even in the back and maybe have to move stuff around or god forbid downsize to a smaller container when a bucket gets low enough to do so and to check said smaller containers to see if that has been done. 4 different things have been prepper and put into circulation before the older stuff was pulled from the fridge this week meaning I've had to throw out a shitload of food and everyone wasted hours of time that could have been used making the things we acrually need. This is amateur hour shit.
