pretty cool, but why bother with the stairs? just put a normal trailer home on a 20 degree incline and call it a day.

You noticed the ratio of stairs to floor space.

I noticed the very clear assumption that this is being put on a standard residential lot, and instead of considering multi-unit buildings, we're putting setbacks around a trashed shipping container so we can have that most important thing, easy car access.

We are not the same!

Another issue, you need a semi truck to move these shipping containers. You could bring in the material for a regular house with nothing but pickup trucks if you had to.
