Hi there,

After @FlayOtters@lemmy.world was able to get in contact with @MushroomMan89@lemmy.world, I volunteered to help moderate this community. I would like to thank both of them for doing the legwork of creating this community/and doing work to keep it running!

I have been a lifelong football/soccer fan and am happy to help keep this community on track and discussing the sport we all love.

If you see something missing on the sidebar (or anywhere else), please let me know!

With that out of the way, does anyone have any photoshop/editing skills? It would be nice to create a banner for this community but that is not something I am excel in so happy to take contributions!

I guess a consensus hasn't been firmly established on memes but I personally wouldn't mind restricting them on this sub, creating a separate Soccer Shitpost sub and linking that in the sidebar.

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

That's a fair suggestion. Probably should open it up to the wider community...or maybe just memes/shitposts only on one day a week etc

[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I prefer just having each thing in its own place and wholly separate, to be honest. I did enjoy the no holes barred shitpost-a-thon once a year or whatever on r/Soccer over Christmas when the mods had a day off. That felt like a proper event, but I'd not want it more than once or maybe twice a year on the main sub.

r/MLS used to do meme Mondays, those were fun

[-] FlayOtters@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I tried to make one but it just turned out shit.

The video bot for goal highlights I mentioned previously seems to be working btw. It copies the post title and url to the video from reddit and posts it here automatically. If it's ok with you I can start it running 24/7 in the next few day to see how it goes? I can try to adjust it if necessary based on how that goes.

[-] bailong@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

Nice, thanks for your effort! Looking forward to the highlights.

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Sure, lets try it for a few days and see how it goes. Can adjust as we go forward

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Nice to see we finally have active moderation! Hoping to see match threads / daily discussions going :) I know Man U have a bot, and we're working on one ourselves at c/gunners, so that's worth referencing

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks! do you know what bot they are using?

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I can probably cobble something together in Photoshop. What sort of thing were you thinking of?

Edit: I have an idea for a community logo as well, if you guys are interested: a football with the Lemmy icons mouse face on it.

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Sounds good to me

[-] ohhidoggy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Hey guys! Super stoked to being making the jump across from the old r/soccer.

Was wondering if anyone knows how we can search the community for previous posts in the wefwef app?

Keen to help start some conversations but don’t wanna bog y’all down with reposts.

[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It doesn't seem like WefWef has that functionality but you can limit your search to within communities if searching from the regular Lemmy site in a browser.

[-] ohhidoggy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Okay awesome, thanks Coelacanth! Back to the web browser it is then

[-] Alfi@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

Nice, I hope this community grows and we get more regular content :-)

I have no photoshopping skills, but I really like the banner over at https://lemmy.world/c/casualconversation

A banner with the logo blending in like that looks really nice imho

[-] erik1984@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Nice banner!

[-] yemmy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

This is awesome. I was just asking about moderation a few days ago. Let us know what the users can do to make it a thriving and welcoming community.

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Just contribute stories and comments! We will figure out the rest as we go.

[-] pleasemakesense@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I have a small hope that I helped this c/ get going by trying to contribute at least every day with a post so people would see that the sub was active xd

I believe 730px is the max width

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

This is my attempt with my below average Photoshop skills.

Signatures (left to right): Pele, Cruyff, Maradona, R9, R7, Messi

[-] Gingerrific@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

It's a nice, clean and simple design. Overall i like it, but my one bit of feedback is to scatter the signatures across the field (more random placement). I like the soccer ball pattern in the lemmy logo.

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago
[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah that's much better. I like it!

[-] Gingerrific@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

My man! 👍 👍

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Added it but its getting cut off at the top, when looking at the post list but looks good when you are in comments

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

My comment from earlier today didnt post from Kbin, here it is:

Here is the wide version that shouldn't crop. I couldnt fit the whole field in because of the dimensions.

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Looking at example of the banner here (https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld), it is much larger (2484x950), it adapts as you change window size. I'll see if I can make it bigger to get rid of the pixelation.

Edit: https://lemmy.world/c/nostupidquestions has banner that doesnt crop on different screen sizes so I'll template that instead.

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Did you take a look at the new different design?

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago
[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I like the 3rd one but open to any of them they are great!

[-] skipseagull@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Wonder if thats too much Lemmy in the top of the page now with the icon and the banner...hmm

[-] IceCapp@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

How about something a bit different?

https://ibb.co/s9ctxgN

Edit: https://ibb.co/WKb94rq - Fixed the rough border of the ball.

[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

That looks pretty slick, I like that a lot more.

[-] FlayOtters@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I like this one. Reminds me of the medals they used to give to you as a kid at football tournaments (Not that I've got many).

[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I don't mind the badge by itself but the repeated Lemmy logo on both the icon and the banner next to eachother doesn't look good to me. Easiest solution is maybe to just remove the Lemmy icon from the banner and just have it be a football pitch with all the signatures? I also wouldn't mind the soccer ball being more prominent in the icon/badge somehow, but maybe that is just nostalgia for the old place and the comfort of the familiar.

[-] Dynixx@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah honestly I'd give you that, you're making the sacrifice of modding this place, we'll let you be the owner of the first "new era" banner. Have at it
