NSFW images can no longer be uploaded via Sync

Why not? How can Sync tell if an image is NSFW?

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 62 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This was added in response to last weeks incident. Once additional tools are in place on instances I'll look to remove this.

Sync uses a local ML model to attempt to classify nsfw content.

[-] Vent@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago

Neat, thanks!

Think the restriction might be lifted in the future once this CSAM thing is figured out?

Not a huge deal to me, I don't plan on uploading any NSFW content and my instance has disabled all image uploading (for now) anyway. Really, I'm just curious.

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Yup. As I said once additional tools are in place on instances to deal with this issue I'll look to remove the check in app 👍🏻

[-] Vent@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

I'll see myself out 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for all the hard work btw! Really looking forward to the article summaries.

[-] pimento64@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 year ago

Why not?

Because Google is a diarrhea-soaked abomination of a company that will accuse you of personally trafficking child porn if people have the ability to abuse your app for unintended purposes. This is probably coming because lemmyworld's shitposting board was closed after people spammed it with CP, and LJ is trying to get ahead of Google so they don't de-list his app. Unfortunately for him, Google reviewers don't (can't) read, and will delist his app for a few days anyway. Calling it now.

Thank you again for all your hard work!

Added a potential crash for TextViews crashing

Sounds intriguing!

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Spoiler alert. It didn't work.

[-] ollie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

average sync w

[-] EeeDawg101@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Anyone know if there are any plans to have sync for iOS?

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 74 points 1 year ago

Not currently.

I'm playing with the idea of Sync for Kbin and Sync for Mastodon on Android though 👀

[-] afk@ttrpg.network 20 points 1 year ago

Sync for mastodon would be great

[-] Casiraghi@feddit.it 11 points 1 year ago

Ok, sync for mastodon, I didn't see it coming!

That would be beautiful.

[-] hempster@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

Sync for Mastodon please, also Sync for Hacker News

[-] russjr08@outpost.zeuslink.net 8 points 1 year ago

Sync for Mastodon

Whoa, I'll take "Things I didn't know I needed until now" for 500!

[-] derocker@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Sync for mastadon would be amazing

[-] big_slap@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

would grouping all of this together and calling it sync for fediverse (im not crazy about the name tbh) work better? I'd like to have everything in one app since they all use the same protocol to talk to each other.

[-] coffee@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Huh, that might get me to try mastodon again. The browser experience used to be crap.

[-] Zoldyck@discuss.online 4 points 1 year ago

That's funny. Just a few days ago I thought about Sync for Mastodon.

It would need to be more than great though, because the Fedilab and Tusky apps are already quite good.

[-] anonymoose@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Since kbin has a drastically different API (which is WIP as I understand), will you rely primarily on the ActivityPub bits for the common interface between lemmy/kbin/Mastodon? I suppose you still need to rely on the actual kbin API for account information, etc.

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I was going to wait until the Kbin API is finalised and then take it from there.

[-] kratoz29@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

As in separate apps or all merged here?

Either way I'm excited to see this in the future, don't let the FOSS bros discourage you.

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I think maybe separate but not completely sure.

If separate they'd have to be some way to share an ultra subscription across them.

How do you browse other instances ?

[-] Skanky@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Browse "Everything"

There's a chip at the top for "Instances"

[-] russjr08@outpost.zeuslink.net 5 points 1 year ago

This looks great, thank you!

I'm already loving the article summarizer feature!

[-] refoux@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It appears filtered communities are not filtered when viewing/browsing an instance.

Great update overall!

Great stuff, man! How does one subscribe to the beta release channel?

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The current production channel is still "beta" for now.

There's an internal track I'm doing testing releases on but that's limited to 100 spaces sadly.

[-] Blizzard@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago

Oh cool, so I'm already using beta! Is there any way to force an update to get the upper mentioned changes?

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

It's just stuck pending approval from Google

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

[-] Blizzard@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 year ago

No worries mate, all clear, I'll wait, many thanks!

I might break my screen with how often I'm hitting refresh on the Play store *( ̄皿 ̄)/#_

[-] SteveDC@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago

Is anyone else still stuck on beta 40?

[-] mom@nom.mom 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, waiting for the update to clear whatever needs to happen with the Google play store. It can take a stupid amount of time. I don't make apps, so I don't know all the details on the process, but I've had this happen with previous updates.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] SteveDC@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 year ago

Thanks. I did try all the cache clearing stuff, but no go. I'll just try to be a little more patient.

[-] candyman337@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Added ability to browse all instances on communities on an instance

I am confused as to what this means, can you elaborate?

[-] ljdawson@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Go to "everything" and you'll see two new chips "communities" and "instances"
