I'm starting a project along with my siblings to scan all of the family negatives, slides, and photos in an effort to preserve them.

I currently have Immich as well as Nextcloud Memories internally. That said, neither seem to be ideally suited to this task. I'm looking for a solution that would allow all siblings the option to view and upload scanned pics to the same library as we work through the shoeboxes full of memories. While Immich and Nextcloud both have account support, I can't seem to find a way to share a library amongst all accounts.

Does anyone have any recommendations for this project? I would then backup the scanned pictures on my server as well as B2 storage for redundancy and each sibling should have the option to download and backup the same library however they see fit.

I'm running an Unraid server as well as NextcloudPi on a Pi4. I also have two very basic VPSes that I rent.

I've looked at both ente.io and PiWiGo, but am currently having trouble getting either to work (still learning this selfhost stuff). I'd like to know if anyone has used either in this type of capacity before I spend more time trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Couldn't you use immich external library? The only thing after that is a wayto upload sftp, email monitoring, web upload, or syncthing? Could do multiple options of these.

Hmm, I'll have to look into the external library. I must not have paid attention to that as an option or at least didn't understand it if I did read about it.

Syncthing would be great, but since my siblings are all out of state, I'd have to walk them through configuring it on their computers and I'll be honest, I still struggle with adding new peers and folders with that app. That's a "me" problem, and I'm willing to admit it. But I can look into other file upload options out in the Self Host world.

Yeah getting them an easy interface would be the hard part. Perhaps google drive and a posix mount then use a cron job to move it to the external library?

I haven't tested it, but did you look at Damselfly? The documentation seems to suggest you can do it: https://github.com/Webreaper/Damselfly/blob/master/docs/Multi-user.md

Would Plex be an option here? I don't use it, but I know it has a photo library feature.

Actually I'm not sure. I will investigate for sure though!

Ha, we've been doing the same thing for the past few months! I just made a generic Immich account that we all log into and upload to that. I auto backup the library to other places as we go, just in case. Once we're done, we'll all get copies of the directory to do with as we please.

I have Immich set up to keep the name of the files instead of giving them a random name. As we scan we name the files with the peoples names and generic tags like Tom.Mary.Birthday.1992 and putting Mary before birthday indicates that it was Mary's birthday. So that if I decide to try and add meta data to the files it will be easier.

I haven't figured out a plan for adding meta info to the files so they at least have the year/month they were taken and I don't know if I even want to since we're 1000's of photos in now

Ok, I like this idea. Handn't thought of doing a single library we all log into. That certainly could make things easier since I already have the server up and running.
