MANILA, Philippines — Mobile giant Globe Telecom Inc. has warned that digital fraud is thriving in messaging channels and from overseas numbers, both of which are not covered by the regulations of SIM registration.

Globe will send representatives to the Sept. 5 hearing of the Senate on the proliferation of text scams and the reported use of SIMs for illegal operations.

Globe general counsel Froilan Castelo said that cases of online fraud, particularly text scams, remain prevalent in spaces unregulated by SIM registration.

Surprise surprise... Wasn't this the main thing the sim registration act was supposed to alleviate? Personally I still get the same amount of spam SMSs as before.

The only spam I get is from globe, landers, and whatever other service has my phone number.

I don’t see any way to opt out of these messages, landers!!

I’ve been getting international spam for years that hasn’t changed.

I still get BDO phishing messages every week. The funny thing is, I don't even have a BDO account anymore.

I usually get gambling related SMSs, even though I never gamble. Not my vice at all, lol.

Good. Move it online and it won't wake me up at night getting spam calls and texts.

I don't like what Globe is sending we might get a equivalent of UK's online safety bill.
