What does “affordable” mean if there is no MSRP listed?

They have an amazon link that shows $99-$151, depending upon options.

Can it run (fully, not crippled) with Linux mainline?

[-] anlumo@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

The Orange Pis have a tendency to be abandoned the moment they are released, remaining stuck on an ever ageing kernel. Unless there's a mainline kernel available, I wouldn't invest in that platform.

Support for 8K video codec

Does that work in Linux, or is that on Android only?

Does it have proper GPU drivers for Linux?

It still has much to improve "software-wise"...but its still good enough as is. At least for me, as I'm planning to use its "betterer" version, the Orange pi 5 plus as a middleman for my network.

I had planned to use it as a replacement for my desktop, but I encountered a few issues while installing some of the programs I usually use. As a result, I decided to utilize it for self-hosting certain programs instead.

Eh, its a single board computer made for tinkerers -- you've got to learn some things in order to (properly) use it. Which is tame if you have spare time to learn some (simple) things like basic compiling with gcc and the like.
