major record labels consider it a parasitic threat

Well, they would know. Takes one to know one.

What do record labels even do anymore? Broadcast radio is dying and even when it was less dead, it was the same 100 payola songs on repeat. It's never been cheaper or easier to self-record and publish, and there are all kinds of online platforms artists can use to distribute their work and get paid.

Hell, the last few new artists I've found were from YouTube/Spotify/Band Camp and had Patreon accounts.

The music industry needs to die off already.

The music industry needs to die off already.

You know what I find it akin to in the industry I work in and I know this gonna cause some controversy - but the 9-5 Mon-Fri managers we have at work.

I work something called Continental shifts which are basically days/nights/days/nights on a A/B/C/D rota throughout the space of a month.

What I find telling is we run absolutely fine on weekend days and all our night shifts but, we have these what I'm going to call leeches (but the controversial term is.....Office Drones) just like the copyright fuckwads illustrated here that suddenly appear throughout the week and are a general nuisance?

They really don't do anything I can see that benefits the company/industry other than sending emails etc for others to send them a report that's readily available/start bullshit investigation etc.

They make me grumble these leeches :/

As a shop floor guy I identify with what you're saying and if you're not in one get in a Union.

But those guys do all the paperwork and business shit. If they don't do it right then it can blow holes in the business, which pays your wages.

For example, this week has been a shit show at work because the IT crisis happened. This has meant parts that we need haven't arrived, and lines have shut down.

Management have had their heads up their arse trying to keep shit running, sending folk home on holidays, hell lads are taking time off unpaid rather than bum around doing "preventative maintenance"

Someone has gotta make sure all that shit works out and it ain't me. I've just got to get the parts out when they're there.

All I'm saying is that in a good company there's less "Us and Them" everyone has a role that's recognised, and individuals are judged on their work rather than their position. You can have good and bad CEOs and Forklift Drivers

Us and Them

No doubt - there are many of these workers in the Office but I'm also seeing many stragglers doing fuck all and also delegating jobs out that they're themselves fully capable of doing but instead of walking 100 yards sending an email + WhatsApp.

While I don't use WhatsApp things get cycled down other channels and it annoys me no end. I'm a busy person 80% of the time but because these leeches can't organise their weekdays they then try their best to offload their, work.

Moar deep grumbly noises.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 months ago

Delegating is fine so long as they're staying busy. I'm fine with my manager being in lots of meetings, because that means that I don't have to attend those meetings and can focus on doing my job.

Definitely a fair point and I imagine it varies highly between industries/companies. I just get to see lots of redundant actions that are simply, redundant, just like the perps in the OP :(

You're right and you should say it. They exist not to help the workers but to spy on them and act as enforcers for upper management.

I also found that using Orbot (basically a Tor VPN on iOS) completely removes all ads in the interface and while listening 😊

[-] stepan@lemmy.cafe 4 points 4 months ago

Probably any adblocking VPN does. I use Rethink on Android, it acts as a vpn but is local so more of a firewall, I'm sure something like that exists for iOS too.

[-] aldalire@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 months ago

I tried it with DNScloak with a mullvad adblock DNS and that didn’t cut it (although, that blocks ads in like 99% of iOS apps, like the annoying ad banners in free apps)

The loading and buffering times in that app make it useless to me. I'd rather just listen on NewPipe or Freetube.
