I’m considering moving from Android to iPhone, but I read a lot about iPhone images being over processed. What’s your opinion? Am I going to be disappointed in the camera?

I did find this thread where one user mentioned it may be the viewer on the iPhone, and that pictures look fine viewed on other devices.

I’m curious to hear opinions. How happy are you with your phone camera?

I just shoot RAW for images I care about on my iPhone and they look excellent.

My experience is it’s as bad as you fear it will be. I hate any photo with trees or greenery in it especially. The wide angle lens is far from amazing also. I’m actually thinking of buying a dedicated camera as well, because I’m no longer happy with my iPhone shots. I also have a Pixel for work. Overall better photos for sure.

Well dang. That’s disappointing. I recently converted to Mac and wanted to take advantage of the integration. I take a ton of pictures though and don’t want a camera that’s sub par. My current is the s22 ultra, so ideally it would be similar quality.

Thanks for your feedback. It gives me something to think about.

@Humanbiscuit this is quite painful to read. 90% of my photos are trees/nature, which mostly look ok but not great on iPhone X. I use Camera+ for macros, which is better than native but still horribly unreliable. I was looking at the 14 Pro for better shots, but based on your experience I may hold out & hope for the 15

...... or the Olympus Tough TG-6, which is vastly cheaper and looks really good

The over-processing is mostly too much sharpening in my opinion. For example, my pets look like they have gelled hair on iPhone. On my Canon they look nice a soft and realistic.

My photos look great most of the time. There’s been a few times where it has an over processed look, but overall it’s rare in my experience.

I don’t have another phone to compare with other than my older pictures taken of different iPhones. Some parts are better, like sharpness. Overall, I agree that the newer photos look over processed. I’ve been disappointed for a while now.

I’ve been very happy with the camera on my 14 Pro. I feel like the whole over processing issue is a little overblown. There are a few instances when it may go a little too far, especially when fully zoomed in. But overall, my photos look great. And if you want even more detail, if you have an iPhone pro you can shoot in raw, which on the 14 Pro is 48mp! I think if you look into any reviews of these devices or even most people who comment on line, you’ll find that most people think the cameras are great. And if you shoot video, the general consensus is that the iPhone shoots the best video of any phone, fullstop. On top off all of this, you can actually adjust the iPhones processing if you like. This actually adjusts the way the images are processed when you take them, it’s not a filter

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback. I have some thinking to do

I don't mind it. I think the photos look great, especially in portrait mode.
