I'll be honest - as much as I hate u/spez after everything that happened in June, I would probably still be using Reddit if not for them outright killing third party apps. Losing Reddit is Fun was one thing, but I will never downloading the official app.

So yeah! Lemmy here we come. Hopefully the community continues to get livelier as time goes on.

Maybe one day, maybe it's using Connect but it seems like no matter what filter I use I keep seeing the same posts (and the majority of it about reddit) so I've definitely added it into my rotation, but doesn't quite feel like it's enough yet.

Basically! I still haven't found equivalents for everything I was following on Reddit since my account there is 13 years old, but I have found more than I expected. Just since late June when I started lurking here it seems to have grown significantly. I suspect there's a higher proportion of longtime Redditors who have left recently since we've seen it abandon the principles it was founded on.

No, because the niche subs aren't alive here.

[-] Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Yes. I am pissed at Reddit with the whole API shitstorm and because of this I found out about the Fediverse, went down the whole Lemmy/Mastodon/Pixelfed rabbit hole and couldn't be happier.

I've been on Lemmy and off Reddit since RIF died. Hope it grows, but so far it doesn't replace the reason I used reddit. The frontpage/hot posts are similar and even better than Reddit. But I never cared about those on Reddit anyway, they were mostly junk content that I didn't care about. Reddit was great because you could find a highly active niche community for ANYTHING. Find a new show you like? There's a subreddit with deep discussions of every episode, and fan theories about hidden details. Are you a scientist with a specific field who wants to stay up to date on new research in your field? Well the subreddit for your field is filled with other scientists discussing newly published research.

If course I don't expect Lemmy to be able to do that immediately. That requires a huge userbase and years of time building these small communities. Hope Lemmy can do it, pissed that Reddit already did it and now is trying to ruin it

Yes i have basically replaced Reddit at this point, other than if google search comes up with something I need.

[-] nic@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

i still have a million things 'saved' on reddit i need to check out and there's that one niche sub i lurk that doesn't seem to want to migrate but other than that yeah this is it for me. lemm.ee + wefwef

[-] tiny_electron@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

I uninstalled Reddit when Infinity died

[-] AnakinZX@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah trying to at least. Signed up on lemmy.world and using wefwef atm. Wont be using reddit for much longer I don't think

[-] lvxferre@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I don't really use Reddit any more.

[-] FARTYSHARTBLAST@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, not sticking around while it slowly becomes a worse and worse user experience

I would like to, but let's be real, i had a question about a game today and i went to Reddit because that game deosn't have a Lemmy community.

Reddit has more people, more content, and more history. Only an actual collapse will make Lemmy a superior alternative.
