I'm relatively new to audiobooks and I noticed some of the defaults that I've fallen into. I like listening at 1.2x speed, and I'm finding that I like to use the audio version to get into the cadence of things. If I really like the work or if I'm in a hurry to get to the end, I'll switch to reading. How about you guys?

I only use 1x speed for audiobooks, i listen to them whilst at work and I want them to take up as much times as possible for me. I also don't want to miss anything if I'm concentrating a bit harder on a specific task I'm doing. Where as something like youtube I watched everything there on 1.75x speed because that is my own time and I want to get the info as quickly as possible.

I never read however. I've enjoyed getting into audiobooks because of the fact I find reading absolutely mindnumbing and it sends me to sleep so I'm glad to be able to experience all the good stories out there without having to read xD

I tend to use 1.1x or 1.2x speed depending on the speed of narrator. I usually listen to audiobooks while doing other things, mostly exercising/walking since i'm limited on time, so I haven't been switching back and forth much lately.

However, I do love the side effect that if I start with the audiobook and switch to text, I'll still read (or hear in my head, I guess) the text in the voices of the narrator and characters. This makes reading a physical/ebook more enjoyable for me. It's easier to get the mental movie going when I don't have to create the sounds myself, and I can focus on the visuals.

I just listen at 1x speed, but I wish someone would make an ereader that plays audiobooks and syncs the written version with your place in the audiobook so you can switch between them!

Newer kindles and audible can do this, but it's a little glitchy and expensive, and you have to buy both the audio book and the ebook. There is a discount buying them together, but still a lot.

Is that different from Audible/Kindle Whispersync?

Always 1x speed. I'm not in any hurry to get through the books, I'm just here for the entertainment, usually while doing something else. I also often go for longer books, if only because 50 hours of book feels like a better deal than 6 hours of book, when the price is the same.

Depending on the narrator, somewhere between 1x and 1.2x.
