My guess is that somebody has already forked it if it's a dependency and so somebody else will just republish it.
Yep, a few forks were identified within a few hours. I think the maintainers had forks too.
Honestly, 800 stars isn't a huge impact anymore on its own. I think the age of the repo and frequency of updates matters more. If there is a fork that is more active, people will switch to it.
