Does boost for Reddit still work? I quit Reddit and deleted my account and moved to lemmy. I assumed boost for Reddit no longer functioned.
I think it only works if you are a community moderator.
Can confirm it works for mods... at least for now
I'm surprised how long that's still been a working option. I made a subreddit with zero activity just to be a mod and keep using Boost.
I guess it's to placate mods in the short term whist they build out their own app. The average redditor is ๐คทโโ๏ธ and moved across to the official app, so 3rd party app usage will be way down. Also means app Devs won't bother to keep developing if it's only a handful of people still using their app so the apps get killed off either way.
My wife still uses it and tells me that nothing has changed with its functionality. It quit working on my phone ages ago and I have been here since. How are folks getting Boost for Lemmy? Play store still shows it as a prereg. I'm on Voyager at the moment.
You have to sign up for the early access. There's a link in a pinned post in the boost for lemmy community.
I prereged before the reddit app quit working
Different thing. Look for the pinned post and the link in there. Once you're registered for early access, you'll find an entry for Boost for Lemmy in the playstore that's explicitly labeled as early access.
Got it! Thanks. Replying from it in fact.
Please don't clutter up the beautiful icon. I changed the reddit boost icon to the grey version as a reminder that Reddit killed it.
Funny, I did the same for almost the same reasoning.
I was wondering about this when somebody mentioned it in the other thread, so I hope you don't mind me asking here, why would you still have the Reddit application still installed?
It doesn't work since the API was shut down, and there's no other reason to keep it installed.
If you simply remove it, there won't be any confusion around the icons any more :-D
I haven't seen any bugs either! Though I seem to be missing the hide post feature, which I use when I'm scrolling and I see something that's very triggering, and I want to ensure I don't see it again ๐

Because the official app sucks.

That's not entirely true. It still works if you're a moderator of at least one sub.

Then I'd have no bearable way to access reddit, though. Which I rarely do anymore, but still.
Head into the Theme settings in-app. You can change the app icon in there.
Yah, I know. That's what I wrote in the post.
You right, you right.
