08.01.2025 - Exhausted SOTN

  • Brush: none/hands
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: snapped RPL
  • Lather: GRN [GRÜN] - Hemp & Hops organic shaving cream
  • Post-Shave: OAM - Witch Hazel & Cucumber toner; moisturizer

-> 2 pass head shave and 1 on cheek lines and neckline. OK overall, just not as slick and luxurious as I'm used to.

Why a brushless cream? The heating company & my landlords were here today for a long-ass repair session in my flat as well as the whole apartment complex. I had to get my precious brushes out of trouble and I didn't bother fetching the box with them from my bedroom again. I'm really spent today. The repairs took place for over 7 hours (minus 2x 1-hour breaks for them where I tried my best to fill out my school documents digitally) and then I had to clean everything up in my flat. Thankfully, everything regarding the radiators works (for now). But I simply couldn't be arsed to search for one of my brushes.

This here is a natural & organic shaving cream by a brand from german natural manufacturer cosmondial. I don't know if it's intended to be a brushless cream; at least that's how I normally use it for body shaving. The scent is quite nice, after all it combined two known vices. However, the stuff tends to get sticky and doesn't really exceed in terms of slickness nor protection. I usually don't notice in the shower since I still use a cartridge razor there - which I intend to change once all cartridges are used up. Their moisturizers are quite good, but this shaving cream isn't really worth bothering in comparison to Speick (my usual choice for body shaving).

But, alas - it was still good enough to shave my head in two passes and the light texture helped with shaping accurate beard contours. Ying and Yang - there's always something positive to a negative. Or some other deep thought shit... I'm gonna rest now. Gladly, it'll be warm while I do so...

SOTD pics are back 😊

Black Watch day++;

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 2 days ago

I'll be wrapping up a very busy time mid-month and plan to do more SOTD pics.

During this shave I was taken by how good Black Watch really is. Though all the Seaforth! scents are great, this one and Spiced really are my favorites.

💯 % my favourite. As you say, there are a lot of winners in the line-up, but Black Watch has a special place IMO

I'm of a mind to trim my soap collection this year. I have so many soaps that are great but that fall in that (very wide) barbershop formula, and I have a fair amount of dupes. But if I do trim, Black Watch stays and eventually gets replaced.

The Mousse Illuminée aftershave works surprisingly well with Spiced.

Have a good night!

  • Brush: Zenith/Stirling - 510SE-XL 31mm boar
  • Razor: GEM - Micromatic Flying Wing
  • Blade: Personna - GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Stirling - Arkadia
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Arkadia Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Ginger's Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+ menthol)
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Arkadia EdT

I had good results from my first shave with this Flying Wing, though it was a rough shave overall. Somehow, I woke up with razor burn on my neck that wasn't there when I went to sleep...

Have a good day all!

Maybe tell your wife that you already shaved? 😎

That must be it! 😂

Keep at it! GEM technique is a little different than DE, but it's worth it to figure it out.

  • Brush: Semogue 1305
  • Razor: GEM Flying Wing
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (3)
  • Lather: Maurer & Wirtz - Tabac - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Nefertiti - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

Using Tabac multiple days in a row can only mean one thing... an experiment.

I don't know if I picked up this sort of curiosity from watching so much @sgrdddy back in the day, or if it's just who I am. I decided to treat Tabac like Williams Mug Soap today. I was using a boar brush, after all, so figured maybe this is what Tabac was designed for.

So basically I just loaded soap for one pass, maybe added some additional water, but didn't really "lather" it. It wasn't nearly as wet or good looking as I would normally make it.

I did that for each pass, and I didn't even rinse the soap afterwards! Old school!

It worked, to be honest. It provided slickness and protection and it didn't really lack any performance compared to when I spend time making it beautiful.

I used my Semogue 1800 yesterday, which I purchased against the recommendation of @old_hiker years ago when we were at Maggard Razors. He said the 1800 was too floppy. He's right that it's floppy, but I kinda like it! Today I used the 1305 which is much less floppy, and borderline stiff. I like this one, too, though. I think if I had the 1305 as my first Boar, I wouldn't be impressed. It's only enjoyable since I have multiple boars so I know I'm not stuck with this one, and it's different from the rest of my boars so I can give it some credit for that.

Between the 1800 and 1305, which one do I prefer? Hmmm. Something right in the middle would be perfect, honestly. The 1800 is nice to use but difficult to load soap with, and the 1305 loads soap easier since it's stiffer, but it's not as fun to use.

I have an Omega 10048 that is also on the floppy side but I love it. I find that pinching the bottom of the knot while lathering really helps it perform.

It looks like the 10048 is a bit larger than the Semogue 1800. I’ve been curious about Semogue brushes, but was thinking about a SOC at some point.

There are too many brushes to try!
