It's a fun little game where you play as a tourist in Japan. You score points by completing scenery sets, collecting food and souvenirs, things of that nature.

I particularly like how it doesn't pit people against each other but still leaves room for intricacies and competitiveness anyways. The culture showcase and overall design is really nice as well.

One of my absolute favourite games. I love the elegance of the rules and the feel of the whole game

It is one of my top games. I love the mechanic for turn order, and the meals at the inns. I have the anniversary edition, as well as the miniatures for it.

Typically we do not play with the expansion, it felt like we were getting far too many points.

It's a very simple and engaging game, one of my favourites.

I have the fancy kickstarted version with all the little minis of fhe characters! I love that game so much!

I play it on mobile

I feel like it will absolutely cause fist fights if I played with real people!

Why would it cause fights?

[-] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Everybody is angling for the same spaces

Offer them a bowl of ramen, maybe?

I'm cool with fistfights as long as it's at someone else's house!

If you're doing this in Japan, you can start in your own house and go through the wall into somebody else's!

I played it once at my friend's house and it was a blast! Very chill setting, but as you said, it has some depth in how you choose to approach the game, especially because the players are competing for the same resources, so you need to change your game plan on the fly as the situation evolves. I really liked it.

I've wanted to buy it for a while but I've never seen a copy in the wild.

It's a very pretty, chill game. I've seen a lot of players fall in love with it for the graphics.

Yes! The art is pretty, and the play is pretty chill.

My wife and I play Tokaido Duo frequently, the game play is different (you roll dice to determine your move), but specifically for two players.

Also, if you like Tokaido, you might like Parks, which has has similar play and pretty art.
