Democrat leadership must be reeling.
They'll all slowly drop one by one while the smoothe skins take over.
Oh no! Anyway…
I hope people around Joe Biden this morning are trying to convince him to reconsider running for reelection. After RBG - and let's be honest, McConell won't be far behind - this issue of our aging politicians holding onto office until death rips it from their icy grip, is top of mind for all voters.
Diane Feinstein, McConnell, Thurmond, and probably a dozen other politicians that worked well into retirement are a good indicator of how powerful name recognition, experience, and incumbency are in an election. As much as I dislike having a President that's about as old as my grandmother (and I'm 40) Biden really is the best candidate to beat Trump. Polls might be 50/50 at the moment but very few names from the Democrats side really stand out and I think any new contenders will have to fight their way up to simply tying with Trump.
I think Biden has most of his faculties intact and I'm holding out hope that he'll gracefully step down during a 2nd term if it comes to that.
