The anti trust system has failed completely.

Like the rest of the system is in any kind of food shape...

Of course. But on the other hand: Who else would?

It's not like Bob from Des Moines is going to find $100 billion behind the sofa cushions to buy it. There aren't that many companies with much higher valuations.

Oracle has been the most involved player for TikTok up to this point. Trump has also floated the idea of being government-owned.

[-] kerrigan778@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

They want to privatize the post office but make TikTok government owned... JFC...

[-] IllNess@infosec.pub 1 points 1 month ago

Government owned under Musk. Basically Musk wants to control it while we pay for it.

Disgusting.

So they can use it to spread right wing bollocks, cause at the minute it’s (probably) a little bit of everything.

It’s fucked up, and I had to read that twice, but it’s not really surprising.

It's the only big social media not regime controled.

No no, look what they did with Sun.

Yup, expect paywalls, lock-in, and relentless profit-maximization.

The silver lining is that they seem to care more about your wallet than your data, though they'll hoover up both if given the chance.

Bezos wants his own X…

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

Every billionaire competing to buy the world's biggest megaphones...

[-] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

So after buying WaPo, bezos wants in on social media. Got to pump out the propaganda where the kids are

[-] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

[-] XEROAARON@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That went really well with Twitch didn’t it…

It doesn't matter who the hell wants to buy TikTok if ByteDance still doesn't want to sell.

I don't know why we keep having these sorts of conversations when they've signalled they have no intent to give in to the demands of the US.

[-] Bloomcole@lemmy.world -2 points 1 month ago

Exactly, Bytedance is a lot more than TikTok and even then, the US users are neglectable.
They'll probably ban it in the end.
Can't have information not controled by the regime.
