I really want to believe this.

But we have watched Donald Trump do so much stupid, evil shit in real time and we still ended up here.

There is only a small minority of people voted for Trump because of prices. They did it because they hate that the world is not constructed for them to be on top. They hate that there are three transgender high school athletes in the state. They hate that Harriet Tubman is on the twenty dollar bill. They hate that the Brown MnM is less sexy. They hate that they couldn't get a date in high school. I do not trust self-interest will prevail over blind, stupid hate after we have witnessed it not for so long.

If seeing people deported to extraterritorial prisons without due process, the only evidence of their crime being Donald Trump says so, is not enough to get these people on side, but their retirement portfolio getting fucked with is, I have no faith in them.

What you're missing is that the majority of his supporters don't even know about the bad things because their news bubble hides it from them or they don't care because it doesn't affect them directly.

On one hand I'm happy he's changed his opinion.... On another how the fuck do you have two functioning brain cells and vote for this shit stain to begin with..... 😡

Trump’s approval rating is still higher than biden’s. Singular instances of disapproval are nearly entirely irrelevant, and yield only a skewed picture.

Dude no shit I'm voting democrat

Bold of him to assume that he will be voting again.

In all of this mess, seeing people like your good friend suffer from the consequences of their own actions, maybe even for the first time, makes me very happy. I'm sorry for the rest of you, but the leopards can eat every single Trump voter for all I care.

This is the "I'm alright Jack" crowd, not necessarily the ones driven by hate, so the actual "conservatives" and the backbone of rightwing support.

Whilst even when the mainstream Right move all the way to Fascism they keep on supporting it, it's only as long as they themselves carry on being alright.

it is depressing how much people in the US care about their little stack of chips over anything else.

[-] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

When you don't have a solid social safety net, 30+ years of indoctrination of "individualism good, family and friend support bad", a medical system that is built for profit and generations of both subtle and obvious propaganda that the more money you have the better of a person you are, I can understand why people protect their small stack of chips.

Republicans and Democrats in the 2026 and 2028 elections:

[-] papalonian@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Republican: Never thought I'd die voting side by side with a lib-tard.

Democrat: What about side by side with a comrade?

The fact that they are still good friends with someone that actively claims(/claimed) to have supported Trump is damning for that tweetist.

And what am I supposed to take away from this? Cool, they're fine with racism and sexism but the economy is sancrosanct. Who is this appealing to/performing for?

Good God I hate conservatives. The most selfish people on the face of the Earth. They literally care about nothing until it affects them.

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago

i never thought he'd do the thing he said he'd do all throughout the campaign while vice president harris warned you about it.

Lmao they still think they can vote these racist parasites out of power.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The vote is a warning, not a request.

As satisfying as it is to point out this persons hypocrisy and selfishness in only caring when if affects him (and it is satisfying,) I struggle with how best to incorporate those earnestly crossing the ~~isle~~ aisle (late though it may be.)

If we have any chance of unifying our country, we’re going to have to figure out how to welcome back those earnestly recognizing the errors they’ve made. Heavy emphasis on ‘earnestly.’

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah it's not enough for them to realize their conclusion was bad, they need to realize the flaws that got them to the bad conclusion. Otherwise they'll easily be conned again.

I don't see most people who voted for trump having the strength of character to do that sort of introspection and reflection.

Newsom? No surprise. This is how the libs help fascism. Nobody on the left should celebrate this creep.
