There’s no name I actively want to go by, is the problem. I’ve tried with minor changes but nobody took them and they aren’t things I can just be like “this is me” because it… wouldn’t be actually? I’m envious of people who have the option to choose their own name, or how to apply it. Mine is so short there’s like 2 nickname options and I hate both. Passionately.

Best I’ve ever come up with would take a full name change (first middle last) to be worth doing. And that’s not worth doing.

I’m super glad it was effective for you, though, honestly that’s what matters. If it matters enough that you have a preference, it matters. My preference is just “anything else please” and that’s not a good option for most people, which.. legit.

No judgement on your relationships, whatever works. I haven’t the energy to be weird about it :)

I feel your pain. I wish I had a better first name or middle name to go by but I’m stuck between a shit place and a shitter place. And none of the nicknames I tried to get assigned actually worked out for me so.. I either get nicknames I hate as much as the name itself or nothing. Super fun!

And if you want to change names, holy fuck, best of luck!

At least you have something you can relate to? I have never met anyone, of any gender, named Shay. I know that doesn’t necessarily help… but.. it’s definitely not something I’d (as a solid middle age sort of person) consider a gendered name. Not more so than Aaron/Erin or any other neutral name..

Except they aren’t just visible from a single location, so almost every time they are over an accessible place on land. Not for the whole thing, sure, but visible all the same.

This might be helpful for reference. It’s maps of where the next 50 years worth of total eclipses fall. The first one that isn’t really visible by people is 2039 in Antarctica. There’s a few like that. Other than that, there’s at least an island you could go to for it, and see one every few years. Eclipses being totally unavailable to view is actually far more rare than seeing one :)

I don’t think lawn mowers, snow blowers, and other ICE landscaping tools, are “very marginal use cases”. Sure they might not use a lot of gas, but most everyone with a lawn/driveway has them (at least mower and blower).

But also, yes, it’s a convenience store. Other than maybe in cities, we often don’t have any convenience stores at all, just gas stations with shops inside.

I know someone like this.

He’s so burned out from doing it as a full time job he can’t be bothered to set up his own system, much less everyone else’s. (He sometimes helps me with stuff, with the understanding that he will answer questions and that’s about it after it’s been set up)

Maybe if he were to charge for the service and labor and quit his regular job, and just do nothing but troubleshooting all day (frustrating and tiring in its own way). But assuming people were into that (which they typically aren’t, especially not enough to pay for it, which is part of the frustration), being security focused and enjoying that stuff for yourself becomes a lot of work very very quickly when you do it for others.

Ok, but again, then it should be nationalized and just paid as part of property tax, or a tax paid mostly by the rich who caused this problem in the first place, instead of generating profits for a company who exists for the sole purpose of generating profits by not paying out when stuff happens.

I’ve already educated myself on this stuff, and continue to do so as more information comes out, but thanks.

The condescending tone is classic considering the thing you linked has right in it:

“However, it is increasingly clear that BMI is a rather poor indicator of percent of body fat. Importantly, the BMI also does not capture information on the mass of fat in different body sites. The latter is related not only to untoward health issues but to social issues as well. Lastly, current evidence indicates there is a wide range of BMIs over which mortality risk is modest, and this is age related. All of these issues are discussed in this brief review.”

It’s a poor indicator because it lacks scientific rigor, aka pseudoscience.

Don’t show the instance of commenters at all?

Thunder doesn’t, and sadly they handle hexbear images the best (on iOS, at least, idk about the android version or any android apps, but I might boot up my old phone and see what’s out there for it), and I’d have to dig through the other apps, most of them have a toggle that’s off by default though.

Fwiw though I put in a request to have it as a feature, at least for those who care.. but as a default it’s generally disabled.

I’m already self hosting a media server and have been for 10+ years. have a vpn and all, but it is also accessible outside of my network (usually).

However it’s a very basic setup that I intend to redo to make it substantially more robust and somewhat automated, and I need to learn a ton of stuff to do so which will scaffold for this stuff. I keep hearing the same words, so at least I know what to look into :)

I have a decent list of self hosting software to look into for various things, I just haven’t had time to pursue it, but I’m about to have plenty of time :)

I understood about 60% of that post.

It was enough to understand the meme.

Progress! (I don’t use arch, btw 🙃)
