Probably very little.

I'm not up to speed on what Twitter is doing these days outside of what's reported here on lemmy.

Unless Musk starts saying things like "Polls are closing early so don't bother voting because Trump won" or things that will suppress votes, his actions and tweets are going to be categorized as political free speech, which has broad interpretation in the US. Sad, but true.

We, as well as our government officials, should remember that Twitter is not the public town square. It's a dumpster fire that is owned by a private entity that permits users to throw their shit into. That private entity is within their right to do whatever they want within the confines of the law.

Let's agree that the two party system is shit. But let's not let that distract us that a vote for Trump will effectively move us to a one party system with zero opportunity to change things for the better.

While you're not wrong, it's not the right attitude.

I donate to Mozilla every year. It's not chump change either. It's the largest donation I make to an open source project. They are listed as beneficiaries in my will. When I make my donation this year, I'm going to tell them that they risk my next donation going elsewhere if they keep the path they are on.

The web is quickly becoming enshittified and we, users, have some say in this.

The Linux kernel is self supported without ads and many distros are able to make releases without ads. A browser that is our direct connection to each other and the world should be no different.

Librewolf is probably the best candidate but they rely on Firefox to continue developing. Maybe it's time to focus on Librewolf and try to get it working with Firefox.

I love how the employee says "okay". Though a better response would have been a sigh and then a very underwhelming "I know".

Yeah I can 100% confirm this. My parents beat me when I was a kid.

I've learned to lie better. It's not something I'm proud of.

It's always "Immigrants are stealing our jobs!"

And never "The company owner hired an immigrant!"

Shows you just how fucked up these people are.

I remember that chipotle was the restaurant for college campuses. Early 2000s and into the 2010s. But then....it became shit.

Other companies came in and they were better and cheaper.

Now I only go to Chipotle when I'm on the road and literally can't find a better place. Hell, I'll go to McDonald's before I go to Chipotle.

They fell so hard.

Except that private weather companies use freely available government data and "enrich" it for the public for a fee.

Which is, imo, even more on brand with Republicans.

But this kind of thing is ripe for unintended consequences at best and flat out bad data at worst.

When I drive I put my phone in the center so I can see the map. If me and my passenger's phones are in the center, who is marked as driving when I get into an accident?

From there, why stop at one phone? Let's put several phones in the back seat, including mine. Hell, let's have a burner phone that I use only for driving that has a throw away account. Or let's go back to old fashioned maps and GPS devices while our phones are turned off. Meanwhile, at home, I've spun up a virtual device where it is very peacefully driving a route. Perfectly. Then I have another virtual device that is driving a different route on the other side of the world driving erratically.

These companies are forgetting that the data from phones are data from devices, not people. If you're going to spy on me, I'm going to make you fucking earn it.

You can see the calculations going on in his head.

"If I just ram this peanut down my throat, I'm pretty sure I can hold the other one in my beak and make it home before I pass out."

The problem is that it's going to take years to argue this in court, years that this country quite frankly doesn't have.

I remember an episode of the Better Call Saul podcast where Vince Gilligan was talking about safety on the set. This was WAY before this incident.

It was something about how they worked with guns and how they use squibs, etc. The way that actors are told about the guns they are using is that the armorer hands them the gun opened, fully emptied. The actor and the person being shot watches as the armorer handles the gun and it is in full view of everyone involved. The gun doesn't leave the sight of the actor or the armorer as everyone gets in place.

Once everyone is ready, the gun is handed to the actor and then the scene is shot.

The amount of checking and double checking that is done is way over the top. And that's just for a non-functioning gun For guns with squibs, even more oversight and more checking.

"We're making a TV show for Christ sake. No one should get hurt, let alone die, because we're shooting a scene." (horrible paraphrase of Vince).

The actor shouldn't "assume" the gun is safe when it's handed to them. The actor KNOWS it's safe because they saw it. The armor KNOWS it's safe because it's their job. There are no "should"s.
