  • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
  • Razor: Razorine Flatboy 73
  • Blade: Tatra
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Autumn Glory
  • Post-Shave: OAM - Dolce Vita ASB
  • Passes & Info: 2 pass head shave; OK shave except for a cut behind the left ear on the second pass.

Found some time to shave again as I finally have a few days off in a row.

Found another notable thing out about the new razor: if you tighten the handle too much, the blade is bent horizontally for a smiling edge! That's probably why my last shave with the Tatra wasn't as efficient as I hoped. This one was way better. So I need to keep in mind to check the blade alignment from all angles when I drop a new one into this razor. Sadly it is very aggressive, a move I usually do to catch all the hairs behind my ear led to a small cut. Ah well, live and learn - at least I had alum.

It's officially autumn/fall season now and at least here in Germany, we had matching temperatures (~ 12ยฐC with wind). Time to take out Autumn Glory and it didn't disappoint. Stirling is rightfully considered one of the top soapmakers in wetshaving, the base always delivers a smooth lather fast. As for the new aftershave balm: I definitely like this stuff, the gel doesn't leave my scalp greasy and it smells really awesome. It was a bit more intense on the sweetness in comparison to Autumn Glory, but it is very inoffensive and rather charming with its scent. Also leaves the skin feeling good, so far a very great first impression!

Thanks! And also thank you for re-invigorating the joy of wetshaving by sending that BVWSC sample to me a few months ago. Without the newfound enjoyment, I wouldn't have thought about any new acquisitions for the hobby. โœŒ๐Ÿป

  • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: Derby Premium half DE
  • Lather: AYLM - Blu Tobacco
  • Post-Shave: Lavera - Men sensitive ASB lotion
  • Passes & Info: single pass WTG head shave. Not bad, not great - simply OK.

Back from the dead - or, at least, back after a bad cold had me on low energy levels after work. Yeah, I had to work regardless; too many sick colleagues already and we were already short staffed.

Not my greatest head shave, but it was a good start to ease back into it. Since a lot of the hobby is scent-focused for me, I usually only trim when my nose is stuffed and I can't appreciate the smells.

One early shift down, 5 more to go this week with only one day off on Thursday. Currently feeling a bit disappointed with everything; hope it clears up soon.

Thank you!

No worries, I think it's good advice. I'll stay in touch through messengers with the most important ones and we made plans to meet up again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium w/ Superknurl handle
  • Blade: Personna Super
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - The Full Measure of Man
  • Post-Shave: OAM - oli del benessere - sensitive skin toner; moisturiser
  • Fragrance: Bentley for Men Intense EdP
  • Passes & Info: 2-pass head shave, a bit rushed but thankfully no irritation.

I actually did this shave way earlier, before my certificate ceremony w/ celebration - but I just now found the time to post.

This shave was great, even though I had to do it very fast. I didn't stretch my skin very much, just went with long strokes of the razor. Two passes were necessary this way, so I don't know if I actually saved that much time. I still showed up late (though not last) because the school had chosen a very remote location for the ceremony - had to walk through mud after finally finding a place to park my car and almost ruined my good leather shoes ๐Ÿ™„ More in the FTF thread.

FMoM seemed quite fitting to me: I like good tobacco scents and despite not owning it for long, it's one of my absolute favourites. The mild razor helped so I don't cut myself, as lots of photos were taken. My class - at least the biggest chunk of it - went to a greek restaurant with our teacher after everything was done. A nice day and a good shave beforehand, what more can I ask before the weekend?

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium w/ Superknurl handle
  • Blade: Parker Super Platinum
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Vor V
  • Post-Shave: Moon Soaps - Old School "balm"
  • Passes & Info: 2 passes on the head, 1 on the neck. Not the worst shave, but this blade isn't very sharp either. One small blood spot on the scalp, another on the neck.

Skin issues yet again, so I used one of my mildest razors available. I seriously don't know WTF is going on with my facial skin, but I kinda got it under control with charcoal soap, a mild peeling and ceramide cream. Moustache and soul patch are gone for good, but no face shaving in the foreseeable future either.

Anyways, I still wanted a shave to calm down and center my focus on something nice. I'm really nervous about tomorrow's oral exam and it's been hard on me. So this was my type of relaxing & self care for today. Vor V with its awesome fruity leather scent, another indian blade with a platinum coating - this one is kinda good, but still too dull for my preference - and the misnamed aftershave lotion by Moon. The latter seems to finally go really bad, I'm afraid I'll have to dump it.

Despite those little blood spots, the shave was actually not that rough. At least I'll look sharp for tomorrow; I just want to get it over with and finally finish my retraining, get my degree on Friday and be done with learning dry stuff. I'll just need to pass this final obstacle!

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: Greencult GC 2.0, plate II
  • Blade: The Gentleman's Super Platinum (DE blade, made in India)
  • Lather: E&S Rasage - Shaman
  • Post-Shave: OAM - oli del benessere sensitive skin toner; moisturiser
  • Passes & Info: 1-pass + cleanup on both head and face around a short moustache & soul patch. Just one tiny blood spot on the chin, but the blade felt rough in general.

Today was a day where I actually shaved again. Despite the uneven moustache growth atm, I was so fed up by the full goatee that I just cut it off earlier today. I look a bit weird with both the 'stache and the patch being rather short, but I hope it'll grow out soon. I was kinda itching to shave my chin again, both figuratively and literally.

Today's blade is a mysterious case: I genuinely don't know where I got this pack of 7 blades ("5+2", as the ad on the cardboard box says) from. I know I got some "Willy's" which are made in India from a Pearl Razor, but this one was strange. It definitely was a freebie, since I never ordered these blades. And probably with good reason: the shave wasn't abysmal by any means, but the blade felt pretty rough on my face. On my head, it's less of a problem since the hair there is softer. But I already felt that it wasn't the best on the back of my head, where some coarse hairs reside. And once it got to the steel wool of my face, it was not very smooth.

However, it also didn't help that my lather was a bit too dry today and that I had some issues with shaking hands after my first home workout in months. So I will probably need to test it again. But if the first impression isn't the greatest, it usually isn't improving much with me. Maybe it's better in a different razor, who knows...

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: Stando Perun
  • Blade: Personna Super DE
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Le Grand Chypre
  • Post-Shave: OAM - oli del benessere sensitive skin toner
  • Passes & Info: 2-pass face shave, felt good except the same 3 tiny blood spots as last time appeared. Contouring the doorknocker isn't the strong suit of this razor either.

This was a rather comfortable shave except when it came to lining up the beard. The Perun really does great on my head shaves, but this seems to be its weakness. Had to put a little bit more pressure on and go over the same areas multiple times, so the exact same pattern of 3 small blood spots appeared again. Oh well, one can't have everything.

I really took my time for the prep and lathering though and it paid off. Used a "pre-shave scrub" peeling and hot water, built a nice slick lather and the shave was rather smooth.

Also, LGC with its cola scent never ceases to amaze me. This is a really slick soap, but despite all the fancy scent notes it's just pure coke with lime to my nose.

  • Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2 w/ Cyber handle
  • Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - The Full Measure of Man
  • Post-Shave: Moon Soaps - Old School "balm"
  • Passes & Info: 2-pass face shave around a very short-trimmed circle beard, just 3 small blood spots but otherwise a good shave!

First test of an SOTD post from my PieFed-account. Otherwise yeah, it's the same old Dave you all know.

I've now landed on Summit as my Fediverse app of choice, unfortunately not on Droidify/F-Droid but seemingly a nice app with the same high level of customization as I was used to by Raccoon. As for PieFed, it's still a bit early to make a full statement - it seems like it federates well with Lemmy but I can't make any further statements yet. As a normal user who isn't a mod/admin of any community, my first impression is that it loads everything quickly and that's nice - I haven't seen too many bad posts that are auto hidden or anything in terms of low quality tags yet, but maybe that's an API thing too. Unfortunately Summit doesn't show our SOTD logo picture, and according to walden PieFed still lacks picture upload support at the moment (which would be better for our hobby). Maybe I can share more concise thoughts in a few weeks, so I'll still keep my Lemmy account on standby...

So for this shave itself: I basically had to wait until today for everything to heal up after my misfortune with the shavette. As for a tiny mishap, I forgot to check which guide comb was on my trimmer earlier and trimmed my henriquatre to just 1.5 mm instead of 3 mm, so I actually had to re-shape it with my zero gap trimmer as it was barely recognizable from the surrounding stubble. This shave was really necessary to give it a sharp look.

The shave itself went way better than expected, just 3 little blood spots appeared on the second pass (I couldn't really call them weepers since they immediately stopped bleeding after a cold water rinse and applying the aftershave). FMoM is great as always and it was slick enough for the tricky contouring work. A big success!

Anyways, please let me know if anything looks weird in my posts. Still getting used to the new app. Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
