A user can use temporary phone numbers to generate at least several accounts over at least a handful of countries. These tools are made for privacy purposes but where there's privacy, there's also usually someone abusing it... which usually leads to ruining it for the rest of us.

That's what anti-virus and common sense are for. If you're downloading from a dodgy site and are unsure about if it's a virus, don't download. The megathread is a good tool for websites that are deemed safe and there's always a post or few on what sites are safe, what are fakes, so on and so forth. When you've found sources that work for you, keep them. Popular sources will have everything but the most niche of content.
