Honestly, I just followed the steps here: https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA#OSTree_.28Silverblue.2FKinoite.2Fetc.29

I was diligent about following the configuration guide first: https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration

I think the key is restarting at every step it asks you to, and maybe after anything that seems major or is a prerequisite for another set of program installs. I mean, I got a black screen the first time, but after a hard reset, it just worked.

No doubt UBlue is probably a lot easier. I did not realize I could have just downloaded the ISO instead of trying to rebase, but I like what I am running.

Anyways, doing it the hard way is helping me learn the intricacies of an immutable system, so I am having fun.

I am finally getting around to doing this! I will admit, I had Windows on all of my machines... I first rehabilitated my laptop, and I finally brought back my main desktop from hell.

Running the script. Let's see what my computer becomes!

Rent-seeking. That is a term I finally see defined.

I do not mind buying software, it is continuously paying for it that feels wrong.

This is what I needed! I have gone through every distro, including my favorite MX Linux, but settled on Linux Mint because it works better than everything else.

I have a MacBook Air from 2014 that I have upgraded to Sonoma that works just fine.

I think I could use macOas forever if I had no choice, but I am glad I can just use linux.

Okay, I was between this and OpenSuse MicroOS. I guess it makes sense to use the distro by the company that makes the technology I want.

Neat. I was wondering how to do that.

[-] DidacticDumbass@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Sure. I personally have not noticed a difference. Then again, I recently got a new computer, and all my other computers are over a decade old, so everything feels luxurious.

This has officially won me over. I am not a minimalist, nor do I have some principled view of package management. I care about computing, and I am all for anything that makes it easier. I am the kind of person who wants all the software I will ever think to use already installed. I see my computer like a library. It is a castle, not a tiny home. I don't give a shit about "wasted space." I can always buy more.

Containerization is awesome, and I will embrace it.

Just curious, what distro are you on right now?

I admit to only having naive user knowledge of flatpaks being an alternative. I am learning a lot today, which is why I asked.

As far as my comment goes, I was thinking about the fuss over systemD, but that is an entirely separate problem I am probably also not equipped to converse about either.

I bet your wall gets a lot of attention.

That was a sobering read. We all feel victorious when we see big tech fail after they wronged their users, but fundamental technologies that actually run the world have already been lost, and may never be recoverable for egalitarian use.

This. Everyone needs to be mindful about what they post. You are communicating with real human beings afterall, with their own life history and memory.

So be kind and give up the fantasy you can reverse your actions.
