Oh yea. If fascism doesn’t kill us, AI will. We’re all fucked and we’ve known it since skynet entered the American psyche.
I broke 6 figures for the first time in 2021. My income gains over the pandemic were word and unexpected.
You’re discussing nuance for a company you like when what I being discussed I the baseline problematic nature of commerce.
Is fair phone a better alternative? Yes, and I’ve said as much.
Is it ultimately different from apple in its goal to be profitable? No.
Both things exist and that’s ok.
So you're going to tell me a company like fairphone is as unethical as Apple or Samsung?
Absolutely. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and even fair phone is profit driven. Even NPOs are profit driven. No one works for a loss in western society. No one. So literally every company will do everything it does for the sake of profitability. Even fairphone.
You have to realize that fairphone’s whole model is a marketing gimmick. Does it happen to align with some good values? Sure, but it’s still a gimmick to separate you from your money at the end of the day.
Never said I was a moderate.
And regardless, I call out infantile rhetoric posing as dialogue when I see it.
Don’t feed the trolls.
If chodes aren’t blocking me, I’m doing something wrong.
Block away papi.
If you’re right, why did they switch iPad to USBC 5 years ago?
If they were SO invested in lighting and against USBC, they would have kept iPad on lighting as well.
I just don’t understand this confusion. There really isn’t been a question of whether or not they were moving to USB-C for at least 6 months. The only question was whether it would be thunder bolt or not, and it isn’t. The narrative was always that they’d keep lightning for 10 years and then move to something new, Schiller even called it “a modern connector for the next decade” when it was announced, and at the time it was better than anything else on the market.
Now USB-C is the standard and superior, and it’s cheaper to bring the iPhone in line with that standard than to keep lightning or develop a new port/connector. As soon as the iPads went USB-C it was a foregone conclusion that the iPhone would follow suit, and anyone who was paying attention should have known it would happen this year, 10 years after lightning was introduced as a 10 year plan.
Not all, in fact most, of the higher quality headphones that justify the inconvenience of the cables won’t have those in-line controls. I know not everyone uses wired because it’s better quality (privacy is a legitimate concern) but that’s the only reason I ever did, and none of my good headphones had in-line controls.
There’s also the fact that in-line controls create another opportunity for sound quality degradation, and my own searching suggests that it almost always has a negative impact on the overall sound quality of a pair of headphones.
Barring privacy concerns, I really don’t see the inconvenience of always having to deal with a cable as being lesser than having to periodically make sure my AirPods are charged. If I used them for 8+ hours a day, I would probably feel differently though.
P sure ya’ll said the same thing on 2020…
