@GeekFTW @pmtriste yeah at the moment I'm only waiting for the api to come out. This will spawn lots of good mobile clients. Artemis so far is pretty good for its early stage and the scrape yourself approach but an api is much more efficient and a much lower entry point for devs.
But in the end I'm happy we even have these options!

Is it just me or does the Lemmy community actively ignoring the existence of kbin? I see a lot of posts explicitly mentioning Lemmy users but only posts from kbinners mention both platforms.

Das ist ein potentieller Offensivinternetbeitrag

Kbin is by far not a finished product. Please do not forget this. Ernest is working super hard on kbin but he is literally ONE MAN running all of kbin with a little bit of external help.

I for example almost always append an "Edit:" note even though it initially is Reddiquette not Fediquette. Also you could use Mastodon for kbin content, it shows edit notes and edit histories

Well the Wikipedia dude is about to pull that up but we also still have kbin.

I've been boycotting Reddit for three weeks so far but I did come back today. I deleted my content and commented about a possible GDPR (DSGVO in German) lawsuit if they bring back my content. I recorded my user page pre deletion, while deletion and after deletion. I have the exact date and time in the global menu so there is no fracking around from Reddit. I'll happily contact the German agency responsible for GDPR complaints.

Oh woh. Well I agree on Reddit being in need of making a profit. I uderstand he found Reddit and does not want it to die. But the problem is the "fuck you" price. I would be totally fine to pay Reddit Premium to keep using 3rd party apps. I would have been okay with paying 40 bucks a month instead of 20 to the 3rd party app so the dev can pay the API fees.
But what u/spez is constantly doing and showing is driving me away from being nice and respectful to him. He blackmails 3rd party devs, he falsely accuses them of saying things that never happened. If he just said "I do now want 3rd party apps anymore" I'd be frustrated but I'd forgive and forget. At this point u/spez just seems to fight with the mindset of a preschooler against the community.
Oh and he is sympathizing with Musk and his moderation and way to run a company. These two things already made me say FUCK NO to Twitter.

Edit: he also fucked with long time, loyal super moderators

This is the definitive answer

I do NOT understand how zip is still the default. I use .tgz wherever I can.

EDIT: LONG POST, my opinion are backed on years of interest in the topics as well as first hand experience.

I'll go Windows x Android first:
Windows is a privacy nightmare. You can try and fight it but you can and will break things along the way. So I'll basically advise you to use anything else.
Android in the other hand has some options to flash custom ROMs and thus you can change what's running. But you're stuck with /e/ OS if you want real privacy without giving up on almost everything Google, banking apps, etc. There are other Android forks but most of them focus on security, features, gimmicks, etc. So at least there you have a good amount of control. You can use Android with KDE Connect for actually good cross device features in my personal opinion.

macOS iOS:
These are fully controlled by Apple. Sure, Apple goes hard against 3RD PARTY tracking, but does not tell you you need to switch off 1st party tracking within multiple settings pages (own experience). There have been some reports about macOS sending hashes of photos from a local account with no iCloud login, but that was fixed quickly, even though I've been skeptical. But this video by Techlore actually explains things really good.

MY conclusion?
I'd say the most private would be Android x Linux with KDE Connect.
2nd place is iOS with proper settings x Linux with KDE Connect. (For real, this tool gets you cool cross device sync.)
3rd place would be iOS x macOS both on privacy friendly settings if you, like me, rely on proprietary stuff. Xcode and iOS development can only be done on macOS and thus I'll stick to this combo. Fedora will always have a special place in my heart and on my SSD though.
So which level of these you want to pick definitely come down to how much you rely on what software and what you can afford. I hope I could help.
