Everybody who voted for Biden didn't even vote for Biden. The 2020 election wasn't about Biden or Harris, it was about Trump.

What does "left" have to do with it? Is it only leftists who object to genocide?

The number of voters dumb enough to switch from Biden to Trump is insignificant. What's going to happen is a whole lot of voters are just going to give up and stay home, and it won't have anything to do with how far left they are.

Just like every damn election, the left is telling the establishment how to attract voters, the establishment is ignoring the left, then the establishment will blame the left. The vast majority of those engaged enough to call themselves leftists are going to vote for Biden. It's the barely engaged working Americans who are going to check out.

Has it occurred to you that making that assumption could also result in suppressed voter enthusiasm? Put yourself in the head of a genuine lefty who's fed up with Democratic shenanigans. What messaging might keep you in the fold, and what will drive you away?

Something else to keep in mind is that it's not just voting that we're talking about. Democrats need volunteers, donations, and word of mouth. Broad enthusiasm is critical for all of that. Who wants to volunteer for a movement that denies them a voice?

For decades now, every election has been called the most critical of our lives, and sadly it's been pretty consistently true. We have elections every two years. Criticism in the first year is called unfair because they just took office. Criticism on the second year is always called disloyalty in a critical election year. Disinformation is only going to be getting worse, so waiting for that to end is not viable.

I said "leadership". Flowery speeches and clever memes are fine, but what's his vision, and how do we get there? At best, he offers minor tweaks to a system that's starting to implode.

She was certainly on the "acceptable" list. Then Biden turned around and called for increased police funding. They are clowns.

you ever wonder why this trial is happening now, not a couple years ago?

Each trial is unique, but there are two general reasons. First, in cases of large criminal networks, it's typical to prosecute Lieutenants first and move up the chain, and that's what has happened. That maximizes the ability of prosecutors to collect information before striking at the top. Second, Trump has no real defense on these cases, so his entire strategy has been delay, delay, delay. He wants to win the presidency and make the charges go away by whatever means he can muster.

We were raised in a strict Catholic household, so, ideally, my family always votes Republican.

Political parties are not like sports teams and you aren't required to vote for a particular party just because you were born into it. Anyways, there is no correlation between being Catholic and voting for Republicans. Also, Biden is Catholic, and Trump is not - just in case you think that's relevant.

This doesn’t make us horrible people.

I never said anything about you being horrible. My comments were directed at the current state of Republican policy and rhetoric, not the personal character of Republican voters.

I’m also a firm believer in Gay Rights, Abortion, and social programs.

Your Pope is also a firm believer in social programs. He doesn't support Gay Rights and Abortion, but he takes a very different stance on them than Republicans.

But, I think there needs to be limits, rules, and restrictions on a lot of that stuff.

So do Democrats. I've noticed this tendency for people on the right to make these kinds of sweeping statements that sound like fundamental policy positions but are really so meaningless that anybody could say they support them. "I believe in small government." "I am against excessive regulation." etc. No real point there, I just find it interesting.

The biggest curtailment of the welfare state in the least 100 years came from the Clinton administration. Obama's biggest safety net accomplishment was Obamacare, which was originally a plan from the extremely right wing Heritage Foundation.

You’re just profiling based on what you read on Reddit and Lemmy.

No, I'm really not. Again, my comments were on the current state of Republican policy and rhetoric, so "profiling" doesn't come into it. This goes back to my point about sports teams. My observations are also based on what I see coming out of Republican politicians and media figures. Conservatives on Lemmy, and especially Reddit tend to keep largely to their own insulated communities, and I don't often visit.

That's not the subject though. This is about a messaging vote in the primary.

Um, ever hear of Abraham? Ethnic Jews are exactly as "white" as ethnic Palestinians.

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 3 points 8 months ago

A whole lot of those Jewish voters are against what Israel is doing in Palestine.

It's generally intended only as a protection against self incrimination. If prosecutors want to force your testimony, they can grant you limited immunity from prosecution and you can be compelled to testify. Of course it gets way more complicated than that, and I'm not a lawyer.

Bullshit. It was apathy tangential to despair. Infighting happens in the tiny percentage of voters who are actually engaged in and educated about the political system. They don't stay home on election day. It's the average apolitical Americans who looked at Hillary and saw no point in dragging themselves to the polls. The whole "infighting" thing was just a way for the establishment to shift the blame.
