The syncthing server only gives metadata (no files, only IPs) between the devices, so they can connect to each other. And it's self-hostable.

It would be great if it had some grammar of graphics embedded in the UX

Oh yes, that's an issue with Lemmy. Edits don't get federated, they stay on the instance. I didn't knew but it makes sense that it's the same with votes.

I believe the issue is that to keep every updated you'd need a far more complex system, like streaming the changes or CRDTs.

Right now, yuzu emulator is being forked and taken over by multiple developers, re-releasing and promising to continue its development in spite of Nintendo lawyers. For example, nuzu. All this is to say that is not the best time for a newbie to jump in, unless they are willing to re-jump in whatever fork out there turns to have a good community of developers and resists Nintendo efforts to shut them off.

Which platform are you on? Hopefully this helps, https://readaloud.app/

PS. There's a mantra that says is best to have multiple simple tools doing one thing well than just one doing everything. It's been in computing since the early days of Unix.

The most salient difference is that YNHST is tied to Debian, while Runtipi is a set of containers you can install on any distro
