Bracing for impact (lemmy.world)

Hello everyone, I am a long time lurker of this channel, and I finally decided to write my first post.

Two years ago I used my old desktop PC to run a home server using TrueNAS Scale. It is still running at the time of writing this.

It works so well in fact that I have grown more dependent on it over time. First it was just Jellyfin, then came all the Arr apps, Adguard, Syncthing, Immich, Forgejo, Wireguard...

What was supposed to be the "PC for backups" has turned into the angular stone of all my computers and devices.

The reason why I am posting today is because I am afraid of the day my server dies or I have to move out of my place (which might happen soon)

Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a cloud server where I could install TrueNAS and then have that be a "replica" of my local one to use in case of an emergency? Is this a bad idea? What is the ideam solution for this issue?

Well, I am sure waiting up to months for the Aliexpress battery to arrive is not inconvinient at all.

And good luck hoping the battery you bought is genuinely new and not just an old one "refurbished".

The point of rechargable AA batteries is that it is a standard. You can interchange them with other devices and use a single charger.

Based on the description on their site, the controller includes a built-in battery: "8.39 Wh Li-ion battery, 35+ hours of gameplay... "

That was disappointing for me. Specially condidering the Steam Frame's controllers make use of AA batteries: "One replaceable AA battery per controller, 40hr battery life"

AA Batteries might not be as convenient to use, but being able to replace them is a great advantage. All my Xbox360 controllers still work fine, but none of my PS3' Dualshock 3s.

The official docking station could be used to recharge (rechargables) AA batteries so the functionality could remain the same.

I honestly feel no pity for them. As a spaniard, their cheapest offering which is usually around 20000€ is simply a rob.

I hope they get their priorities straight and forget about making SUVs
