For installing plugins, I am fine with it, but would not want any telemetry being sent somewhere without my knowledge. The data collected should stay on my server.

Ok. The way I'm set up with my partner is to have two calendars, one on Nextcloud (me) and one on Google Calendar (my partner). We subscribe to each others calendars, and I'm also formatting it the same so it appears to be one. However, we cannot edit each others entries, but for our use case that is not needed, we just need to share certain events between us. So while this is not Proton, I believe the same is doable there.

I can see how this is not a very practical with multiple people (but potentially doable, it has been set-and-forget in my case), and if you need the ability to edit each others entries, then it is a non-starter.

I used to use it for that too, but since the API-thing I got the impression that they all stopped working due to rate limiting?

The idea that a license added would only apply to code added after the license change is very funny.

I suppose it makes sense if it originally had a license, and you then change the license to be less permissive.

What is more difficult is that earlier commits won’t have that license explicitly unless you rewrite git history to make that happen (which is possible but tedious).

I will probably not do that, but I guess it factors into my second question: That I in that case should make sure to include it in all branches (which are not treated as branches in the common sense, but rather as forks within the repo - they will never be merged to the main branch).

check your contract, you might not own the code and your organization may have a process to determine how to license something.

Good point. I will need to double check the contract, but I believe the ownership restriction has more to do with patents and commercialization. All our output was in general meant to be made public.

I love Linux since switching nearly a year ago. Yet, I still once in a while find myself in situations where I screw up and I think to myself "Oh, I'm glad this is not my work computer". If you have no experience with Linux from before, maybe you should consider getting a personal laptop, install Linux on that, and get comfortable using it before transitioning your business to it. That way, the first time you accidentally uninstall your desktop environment (I managed to do this not once, but twice....), it is not 10 minutes before an important client meeting.

Do you know if there is any way to check and potentially also block inter-app communications like that?

[-] cyberwolfie@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago

It’s recommended you keep the default port because as soon as your IP is known it takes less than 5 minutes to scan every port for an ssh port

Fair point! I first thought that would be good, as it would discourage all those random connections. My guess is that they won't bother spending 5 minutes on each server, and instead just move on to the next when they fail. But then I realized that I don't really care about those anyway as they're not getting anywhere with their root:mypassword login attempts.

Hm, yeah. Just checked in macOS, and it is using AAC there. So lack of AAC on my Linux device would mean it is not available here for some reason then I guess, and not an issue with the headset?

I can't seem find a way to check the same on Windows 10 without using a third-party tool, and since this is a work computer, that is not an option for me. My guess is then that it uses SDC. Seems like AAC is supported natively in Windows 11 though, and the device is scheduled for a Win 11 install soon. Hopefully that will resolve the issue for me during work hours.

For now it seems to work better under Linux with LDAC though, which is my main use case. I swear I've had issues with this before, but I just streamed an entire album of high-bitrate FLAC tracks without issue now. Hopefully it stays this way.

As long as you are connected, I think network adb will stay active but if you leave your network f.e., you have to re-enable it in the developer options. But don’t take my word for it. Feels like google changed this behaviour every major release with android.

Oh, if that is the case, this will not work. I'll test it out later this week to see.

On their blog they say: This project is made possible by the awesome work of various open source projects, including Shairport Sync for Airplay, Raspotify for Spotify Connect and Snapcast for multi-room audio sync. So they “just” glue existing stuff together which leaves you with roughly the same limitations as if you would do it yourself. It might allow spotify to be used with snapcast for multiroom but as I’m a yt music user I didn’t digg any deeper.

Hmm, maybe I misunderstood it. Here is a blog post that shows how it can also use Bluetooth. To me, it sounds like that makes an app agnostic solution as long as you are fine with using Bluetooth. My understanding is that you then just connect to one of your speakers with Bluetooth when you want to cast, and you can then control which speakers the audio should play from. I will research this more. I should order a 3.5mm jack extension to the Pi Zero W, which is the only part I miss to be able to set up a proof-of-concept at home.

It persists even after several hours. Never happened before, and I've been using the system for about 6 months now. I posted the output from the process tree below, but I'm not sure if that makes anything any clearer. It's as if it is not receiving any data and just waiting for the servers to respond?

I'm on CalyxOS and I have to enable location services to search for my Xiaomi Smart Band 7 through Gadgetbridge.
