Let be honest, not everyone lives in USA\Canada. From where I'm from, average salary about ~500 euro and a good toy costs a lot less. So, paying 180 from your month income just for dildo is kinda too much for average person in Balkans part of Europe, Russia (well, delivering not working for them anyway, cause they cosplaying nazi Germany), most of Asia (except China, Japan and some other countries) and maybe Africa, but we not talking about them there. Not to mention, that just what I remember (too lazy to google average salary for every part of world) and I have one friend from USA, that also struggles to get decent income to afford at least food, so yea, even statistics can be controversial on those. Don't know how situation in Australia tho, but those guys have spiders, they don't need dragon toys. My point is, that $200 for a toy is too much. That a luxury item at this point, like a premium car or maxed out macbook. That a bit weird, but it is what it is I guess.

Yes. Not about harassment part tho.

[-] de_lancre@lemmy.world 37 points 10 months ago

I just cannot remotely afford it

Let be honest, prices is kinda insane there. Imagine someone, who deliberately would tell "oh, $200 for a silicon toy that I will not use more then one time or even probably never, that I wanna buy just for pure esthetic purpose. What a steal!".

I mean, they do make your device slow. That why tools like InSpectre exists. For some old cpu's like my notebooks one it can be up to 20% performance impact, so if you not planning to use it with internet (or at least as main access point via browser) ever again, why not get yourself free performance?

I can't even open reddit on a phone nowadays, cause my preferred sub have 18+ posts and reddit don't let you access that if you not logged in. Also, there a notification, that I need to use shitty official mobile app. Also, there notification to login via google. Also, there a notification... Nope, I not using this shit ever again.

Have in mind, that custom ROM may not appear at all. My Redmi K30 Ultra is an awesome phone, without ugly dot in the screen, but unlike it's global counterpart "K30 Pro", my "china only" phone have different cpu and no other ROM's for it cause of that. China only also means, that this phone do not have NFC support for gpay (only huawei wallet and some weird china\russian software for some reason) and no gapps installed (like, at all, even tho playmarket will work after manual install). Also, 1/3 of OS is not translated at all, even tho english one of the few languages that supported even on china only rom. Also, you need root to "spoof" your phone ID otherwise some banking soft may not acknowledge this phone (altho, this is very unlikely). Another problem, that all xiaomi phones require you to use official app for windows with connected xiaomi account, then wait for ~2 weeks and only then unlock your bootloader (and for anything bootloader related, like installing different recovery, gaining root or install different ROM).

Where you even find bullshit like this? In russian propaganda media?

Honestly, you can downvote me for my opinion, but when we talking about current support from vendors and if you just wanna play damn games — nvidia just works.

Yes, nvidia lack of support for some features, or sometime they have their time to implement it, like egl for wayland support for example, but god damn, when we talk about smth more simple as playing games, nvidia is just better. You can literally stick bought card in, install blob driver and play. (On notebooks there a bit more hassle and a lot of stuff may not work, like sleep or auto poweroff of gpu for lower power consumption, but good luck find competitor nowadays, lol)

I have 7900xtx, and it's fucking pain in the ass. Two (three technically) vulkan drivers, mesa need to be up-to-date to use smth like RT (and it's still will suck, cause they just started working on RT support like month ago), downvolting do not work and probably will never work, according to some redditor who into amdgpu developing, clock control do not work, some card cant be controled by TDP, there a problem on wayland with VRR, there a two years old bug [1] [2], that cause memclock to stuck to maximum or minimum depending of your display refresh rate: imagine having 7900xtx and get like 20% of it performance, cause gpu don't feeling like playing today. Oh, and you cant control RGB on the card yet, but that small inconvenience, and soon should be implemented, cause that lack of feature from openRGB, rather then kernel problem. Upd. Last one is a kernel problem, as pointed out for me by user below. Oh well.

Default image size near post in global feed is annoyingly small, until you click on it. And sometimes if you do, you got send to another site, cause that was not a preview of picture, but preview of a site instead. It's annoying, is there a simple way to change default behavior?

It will be a bit easier for me, if you can check for yourself via translator. I use firefox TWP extension to translate sites from lang I do not know.

So, there it is, link 1, law that usually used as "appendant" for a case. Any hatespeech against goverment was determent by this law, before specific ones was introduced: link2 for example.

link3 by this law you can also get up to 5 years of prison, that one actually not so often used, but you can check for yourself, there was a list of sued people, cant find it right now. Upd. Found it! Upd1. I didnt notice until now, but site that tracked everyone, who was illegally sentenced to prison, have been liquidated in 2022 apr 5. So, it's not updated since then and do not have people who was recently got sued.

But that all just child play, cause last couple of days they caught people link4, link5 by this law, also know as treason. Especially funny to hear that about trans dude, who just donated own money to Ukrainians military forces.

Also, if you "mass media" of some sort, or just more popular, then a stone from a road, you got this as a bonus.

List can go on, when I said about "laws that was broken" I meant only first and link4, cause they more often used, if police just need a case.

So, as you can see, Russia is a wonderful country, 10 out of 10, would never live there ever again.

[-] de_lancre@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

That’s a problem only they can address

Just to be clear, you just break two russian laws and if we was on smth like VKontacte (russian facebook, bought by government via mailru long time ago) and you was russian citizen in russia, you could be sentenced for prison from 12 to 20 years. I'm skidaddle skadoodle from russia year ago, and that was a best decision in my whole life. Sadly, not every one can leave at this point, cause europe (even when they allowed to get visa) was too expensive for average russian and smth close and more affordable, like China, Kazakhstan, etc., not too much better then russia.
