i just remembered this project: https://floorp.app/en/

japanese fork of firefox with lots of features and proper vertical tabs apparently. i’m looking forward to trying it.

the vertical tabs are fantastic but can’t stand using MS. then i discovered Arc and never looked back. lots of super cool novel ideas coming out of that team. it is based on chromium though. but it’s sooo niiiice :/

what’d they say to you?

interesting! looks pretty cool, i’ll give it a shot later. thanks! something just feels morally wrong to me about actively using a chromium based browser, it’s always in the back of my mind lmao. we are all part of the problem.

the vertical tabs <3

now i use Arc though which has been amazing. i don’t think i can ever go back to horizontal tabs. i love Firefox so much, its just missing a good implementation of this one feature that i can’t live without! there are some extensions but it’s not even close to the native implementation of it on edge and arc browser especially

Ahh I see. Interesting! Thank you for clarifying.

I don’t know much but I don’t think Australia works that way? Do they have “states” or some equivalent? Curiously asking.

I can maybe see it for running an incredibly skimmed down open source LLM, but even then RAM isn’t the biggest limitation. That’s just such a bizarrely niche use case. Almost nobody needs 24GB of RAM in their phone right now. Emulation is a niche case I can see being a little more reasonable. Still insane.

Thanks for the recommendation! There’s so many apps in the works, I love it. I have a whole folder lol. I’ve found Thunder and Mlem to be the most overall functional so far but I’m definitely gonna check out wefwef.

I encourage everyone to go see what’s out there as far as third party apps. Fuck it, try them all!

edit: wow you weren’t kidding! it really feels extremely similar to apollo while managing to be a web app?? pretty impressive. although i’d prefer a native version…
