I still get sad when I think about Objective C and how it didn't take off vs C++ just because it had ugly syntax (which becomes beautiful once you understand why it is the way it is)

So TLDR is that this is Proxmox for the systemd hate club?

  • Qualcomm said first class Linux support was something they were interested in
  • The entire first generation came and went with no usable Linux on Snapdragon laptops

The second time's the charm?

People can always make more children, but shareholder value? That comes once in a lifetime.

I read an article recently where EA said there wouldn't be a Sims 5 because expecting people to get rid of all the content they've collected over the years would be mean.

Not sure how much I believe that, but it's weird to think that in a few years/months, people will be reminiscing about today's EA as the good EA

If you already know cron and are too lazy to learn something new, then use cron with the knowledge that it's a personal failure and not a real technical decision... Otherwise, use systemd timers.

That's a very strange opinion to read on programming.dev's Linux Lemmy community

Check out this blog post which details how uids work within rootless containers. It's useful troubleshooting knowledge to have.

The solution is to get open source into schools early. Idk how tech education is across the EU, but here in the US kids are usually introduced to computers as early as elementary school (but I think today they might be using ipads or chromebooks instead). In my highschool, we were required to get Microsoft office certification before we'd even be allowed to graduate, which pissed me off even back then.

Audio on Linux, like all things, is a deep deep rabbit hole. Whatever you want to do, you can. Whether it'll be easy, or accessible through a GUI, or if you'll have to write your own scripts, who knows. Everything is on the table.

The best way to get answers is to ask directly in the community for your chosen distro. A lot of people just lazily post in generic linux/tech communities, like /r/linux on reddit, and get lazy replies from people who don't know, but feel compelled to post anyway. Don't do that.

I don't think that's the right answer. Android isn't a good operating system, it's a great operating system for mobile. All these mobile Linux distro projects face a monumental challenge to reach parity with Android on almost any metric. Even if any one of them was backed by major investment, I don't think they'll ever succeed...and if they do, we'd just end up with multiple competing open source operating systems which just creates pointless fragmentation.

Android is open source, but it's held by an evil monopolist. The most effective path to freedom on mobile is legal/regulatory, and supporting efforts to break Google up. They've already been declared an illegal monopoly twice in two separate cases. The first one ended with a slap on the wrist, because the judge was a spineless coward. The second one is currently in the remedy phase, and hopefully will have a real impact.
