I don't see how you would protect yourself in that scenario, you seem to think they just let it happen on purpose which certainly wasn't the case, America is just a lot more powerful than any third world country. I do agree that the rich will always fight any attempt because they loose power and money from such a move and as soon as you interfer with imperialistic interests you are fucked byond recovery anyway.
I have a Galaxy s5 and it would still be usable with a custom ROM if parts of the hardware didn't die and so are ages old Laptops...
I don't know how many other countries are in a similar situation but in Germany ISPs do it themself and aren't forced at all...

Our Families Windows XP Laptop had a RAM to storage feature that essentially did the same. I think Windows killed it off but if I had to guess it's just not a good idea to avoid rebooting properly so I really can't see the use for this.

It's fille to the top with crypto garbage and just like Firefox build in tracker blocker Brave prioretizes website functionality over privacy so certain trackers aren't blocked and you are better off with UBlock Origin anyway, I use and vouch for Librewolf!
