You may think the Efficient Free Market Knows Best™, so shouldn't they increase production? Think again. They're making record profits right now. Meaningfully increasing production involves building new factories for billions of dollars/euros, which might be ready in a year or two. By then the war will be over and they would have overcapacity, which would be inefficient and prices would plummet. Why would they do that to themselves?

So they're in a great negotiating position vis a vis desperate Western governments. They want guaranteed profits, of the same sort they're making right now, or else the shortage continues.

• Detaining the ones who make it over in concentration camps.
• Making it easier to deport people.

It won't work either, because none of that has anything to do with people's economic prospects, which is the real reason most of them are angry. So they're still going to be angry with whoever is in power, no matter how many foreigners they deport and murder and scapegoat.

All the liberal parties took a hard right turn on immigration recently. They're now advocating stuff that used to be far-right only a couple of years ago. If this anything to go on, they'll do mass deportations probably next year, whether the AfD is in power or not.

This system can only work due to people getting pushed back and murdered at the borders, and being discriminated against if they make it over the border somehow.

The whole system needs dismantling, and getting rid of the borders is going to be key.
