Another day, another article about the growing injury concern in football.

https://theathletic.com/5068440/2023/11/20/premier-league-injury-latest-news/

We've "only" had 9 injuries, but had/will have some heavy duty suspensions too (Romero, Udogie, Bissouma)

Why are Premier League injuries at a new high? - BBC Sport

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/67417862

"The Premier League currently has 196 injuries recorded in just over three months, with Newcastle and Manchester United suffering more than most - so why this many?"

Eh, hang on a minute BBC. Spurs are suffering as much if not more than Manchester United, thanks.

@otherdog @coys Yeah, agreed. Although it doesn't feel heavy apart from the injuries and suspensions. It feels like some sort of victory in defeat to me. And still only 11 matches in. I think that control will come. He's still in the phase of making players *believe* in the system and, as he keeps saying, there will be bumps in the road.

What a story it's been so far though, eh? Never short on drama. 😆

@mike

Yes, I completely agree you can't draw statistically significant conclusions from them.

What it does suggest, however, is that a narrative of VAR being horribly broken with officials being in the pocket of UAE etc and punishing Liverpool doesn't seem to fit? Is VAR correcting any bias?

Anyway, I'll take a good look at that bias data - it's definitely piqued my interest.

Also, thought I'd add, what a thoroughly decent bunch we have here on fedi. So unlike Twitter.

ANGEBALL:

Lineker: Are you a manger that looks at the players and then decides on a system, or do you have a system and then decide what players fit into it?

Ange: I don't have a system but I do have a way of playing. Because systems change, mate. Again, I've used every system under the sun. [...] But they've all been under the premise that we'll have the ball, and be really aggressive in our approach.

Ange's pressers are usually good, but this has got to be the best one yet.

The above link on f.l is full text if you prefer to read these things, but here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic2qDnzUWT4

Wide ranging, often profound. Well worth a watch.

All those other managers we were linked with after Conte left: I'm starting to feel like we dodged a few bullets there. At this point, I couldn't be any happier with Ange. What an uncommon stroke of luck to get him.

I am really interested to see how Munn does, what changes he brings, and whether he is able to help end Tottenham's trophy drought. I'm liking these winds of change blowing through the club.

This is a fascinating video. All of us who has ever worked on a team, in an office, or wherever, can relate to this. It all seemed a touch awks, even. Brings home the fact that despite the extraordinary money and fame, these are still just people.

Interesting approach to the dressing room from Ange there too. It's the players' domain. A place for them to develop their own responsibilities, autonomy, and culture. Super interesting leadership tactic. 🧠

Yeah I think it will be difficult. Not because of his age but because the Premier League will have moved on stylistically.

@Typeo Thank you, I appreciate the compliment 🙏

Final ratings of Kane and Maddison before being subbed: an insane 10 and 9.5.

I'm sure Kane would be on 11 if they went that high. He just broke Sofascore's player rating system. 😁

Special shout to Kulu too.

Individual heatmaps are super interesting. PEH absolutely bossed it in MF. Udogie and Royal were essentially playing MF too.

@Jabroni Just checked those replies on Twitter X. At this stage, difficult to class those accounts as "people". It's more like a gurgling regression to primordial soup.
