Do you remember the first album you bought with your own money?
For me it was Even in the Quietest Moment by #Supertramp
I had asked my older sister for advice, and while we didn't really have the same taste in music I wasn't disappointed.
Edit: Uhm, not sure Supertramp counts as alternative though...
@alternativenation a friend of mine introduced me to #Portishead when they were still active, and it was very different to music either of us usually listened to at that time. I still really like them. https://youtu.be/8T0cRt8efsQ
I still associate the song Wandering Star with the science fiction show Babylon 5 ๐
My mind just made a connection there somehow and now I'm stuck with it.
