If you like to upload your own music (like Google music), iBroadcast is the tippy tops. You can still use bandcamp (with or without yt-dlp) for discovery, and then upload what you like to iBroadcast.

I've been loving Source Hut, but they're not ready to handle GitHub-level usage

You're not wrong but I feel you might be being overly specific. It's not just the US that protects their wealthy -- this would happen anywhere -- some places maybe a little less harshly, but plenty would be more harsh, too. The Panama Papers journalist was killed "extrajudicially"

I'm in the USA and we've been able to file our federal taxes for free online for like a decade, I'm not sure what these people are talking about. What's new here is that this is the IRS's official tool.

Previously we had to use an outside service -- but it was -- and still is -- free for normal people/people with normal taxes (eg I have 3 kids and a mortgage and I use it every year). State taxes are another story -- that's usually about $20. And that probably hasn't changed; state taxes have nothing to do with our IRS.

This thread is filled with people who don't make a connection between shitty government websites and the roads that are filled with pot holes, several train derailments every day, a tax collection agency that doesn't have enough staff to do audits on wealthy people, and schools that ban books that have rainbows in them but teach books by Prager U.

We could have better government websites - but not if we elect "starve the beast" politicians.

Seconding this. For someone that doesn't know anything about Python, there are vital aspects of Python 2 that need to be covered.

In the context of learning a language, most of the time, a lower version number doesn't mean that much. In the case of Python 2, there are fundamental incompatibilities - and, as you say, it's still out there, and when your see it, you need to know what that means.

Maybe you don't choose a library or a piece of software if you notice it. Maybe you get a legacy code base dumped on your lap. This shit happens.

All of this. The reason why the "trans debate" is so problematic is because of the "debate" part. I don't give a shit about whether gender is a performance or a genetic thing - i care that trans people are murdered at an alarming rate, and that their rights to health care are significantly under threat - or gone already. My concern is that trans and gay people still have to worry about their safety when they come out of the closet.

I care about providing safety and normal human treatment for people who aren't getting it.

The "debates" can happen after these people stop being murdered and abused. You can tell me all about your religious doctrines and how god made Adam and Eve or whatever after we agree that humans need to be treated like humans.

I had no idea delivery drivers were paid like waitstaff - that's fucked up

Your broad generalization on employee salaries is also dishonest of course.

Hey now, be nice - Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

[-] jeremyparker@programming.dev 1 points 11 months ago

Really? I didn't know that. Everywhere I've worked (which isn't everywhere but it's 4 states in the East coast and the deep south), the waitstaff got $3.10 - but I admit it's been over a decade.

That's basically been my path - I started with Ubuntu in 2007, then Mint, then Fedora, then BLAG, Crunchbang, god knows how many others, and then finally, Arch. After being on arch for a few years, I switched to Antergos, and endeavorOS when Antergos was retired (rip in peace, I loved it).

I've been steady with Arch/Antergos/EndeavourOS for the better part of a decade and I have no inclination to hop any more.

Imo "scammer" is the wrong word. "Hustler" is more accurate in my experience.

Under certain circumstances, those iFixit places are exactly what it says on the tin - but if rent's coming up and they haven't had many walk ins, you might end up with a new Flux Capacitor in your JavaScript Microlibrary, since the old one looks like it started sending unhandled exceptions to the teraflop reader - but don't worry, they put in a new 6-charge teraflop reader that should future proof it for years.
