Was Four Seasons Landscaping booked this time?

I just saw a headline that Trump appears to be upset because he's spent so much time and money fighting Biden, and none fighting Harris or other potential candidates.

I laughed.

Even Go Fund Me came out and said, uh, wait, funding health care isn't what we really intended for the platform.

I recall one of the coaches of a major league baseball team had some major illness and had set up a GoFundMe for it...the team decided to cover it, fortunately, but...come on.

I don't know how anyone can seriously claim there's nothing wrong with our system, but they do.

One guy said, in earnest, that it's a good thing that our medical system is so expensive - because that means it's a good system. (This was in response to me saying that I think our technology and care are pretty good; it's how we pay for it that's the main issue.)

How do you even respond to that? I just ignored him. Does he think Europe has cut-rate health care? Canada?

I can't find the exact quote right now, but I saw in another article he said something like, "If they don't pay for advertisements, X will be gone. How sad!"

It seems Musk thinks he's tending another Mona Lisa or some other world cultural artifact that society would hate to lose. Not some website that's fairly easily recreated by, say, a bunch of hobbyists.

We haven't rewritten the firewall code lately, right? checks Oh, it looks like we have. Now it's nftables.

I learned ipfirewall, then ipchains, then iptables came along, and I was like, oh hell no, not again. At that point I found software to set up the firewall for me.

Back in the early 1990s, I worked at a small-town hardware store chain (nuts and bolts, not computers) that was computerizing. A few weeks after we rolled it out, a customer came in with two gift certificates to purchase one item.

It seems pretty basic now, but using two gift certificates to purchase one item was simply not a requirement anyone had thought of. The system had no way to ring it up. The assistant manager of the store did the smart thing and rung it up as a gift certificate plus cash for the balance, so that the customer was good to go. They had to do some adjustments on the back end for that one sale and then update the software to allow for that situation.

I always remember that when I'm working on requirements for systems, wondering what obvious things we're not thinking of...

Get into Home Assistant. A whole new world of tinkering and reconfiguring, with the added stress of real world "Why didn't that extremely complex automation controlling my porch lights work?"

Yeah but you need to know when they'd be sleeping, for example, so you still need to figure something out related to time differences.

"It seems to me Donald Trump's strategy here is essentially damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,"

That has ALWAYS been Trump's strategy for everything.

I agree with you. I've read thread after thread where they show up and start insulting people for not knowing about some minor event that happened in South America 50 years ago that means Ukraine is in the wrong now, or something like that. Then they start piling on each other, and the noise drives out the actual conversation.

I had the exact same thought as you - they are not commenting in good faith. They flat out admit they are here to just argue with people (it was in a post in one of their communities that I've now blocked). They will not respect your viewpoint if it at all disagrees with them. I've seen that time and time again over the past few days.

Honestly, it's makes me want to go back to reddit. I assume they were banned there for brigading, because sure as hell that's what it looks like is happening here. If you see one hexbear user comment in a thread, you'll see at least 100 more.

Defederate them, at least until I can wholesale block them myself. They are not contributing.

I understand your stance on the frontend question. I run a forum site, and it has several modifications, and every time I need to upgrade, there's an air of, "Okay, how difficult is this going to be? Do all of the mods support the new version? What if they don't? Is there another mod that will?" and so on. It turns every upgrade into something I need to set aside a bunch of time to do...just in case.

If I were you, I'd keep it as stock as possible, because it's just much easier to maintain that way.

Good luck on your job search and home repair!

Wh.... Why wouldn't they encourage this?

I mean, I know, but how dumb can they be?
