Thank you so much for the kind words! It's indeed a bad time to be an app delevoper. At least the framework I use is portable-ish, so the work won't be fully lost.

I'm personally really excited for Linux phones and want to move to one relatively soon. They've done amazing work on the experience of using them. What I'd really miss, based off of talking to folks and trying them at conventions, is:

• battery life. My Pixel 3a lasts over a day on Android, likely much less on pmOS
• UnifiedPush for notifications. I only see a Matrix client listed as WIP. Every other app (Fediverse, Signal) I would have to keep running in the background
• Notifications while in sleep mode. Looks like we don't have "Doze Mode" from Android, so only calls & SMS work while asleep
• Fingerprint sensor. More of a QoL but I kept my phone model specifically for the ergonomics of the sensor on the back, and being able to scroll with it. Communication with the sensor is not yet figured out

I'd bother removing it but it's kinda funny to get an email reprimanding me when I ctrl+c out of a sudo command I mistyped, and maybe it will serve as a warning if it gets compromised :p

I started getting spam in German to an email address I gave to the town hall of my town. They use multiple domains to send it, but they all have the same link format that redirects to a fake AI-generated dating site. I've tried reporting some to the police, as well as the hosting providers, but haven't heard back at all. I'd like to delete the address, but it's the one town hall uses to reach me...

So tired of hearing about this platform that, afaiu, is barely even federated and not really decentralized. Why the hype when fedi exists?

My cybersecurity course uses Linux... in a VM. We boot into Windows 10, then start Kali in VMware and do everything inside of it. I still don't know why, I just bring my own laptop with NixOS and add whichever package we are using to my shell.nix for that course.

I did contact Wube, they said they can't take interns sadly :') Would be awesome to work with them.

I can echo the frustrations expressed about social media becoming a necessity as it becomes the primary channel for communication by an institution. Both my university and student dorm use exclusively Discord to communicate events, exams, and general announcements. I don't run Discord on my phone and due to this I have come close to missing several important things, if not for a friend letting me know. I'm not sure what if anything could be done to change this...

Can't hurt to do a little self-promotion ey? I recently started writing https://blog.allpurposem.at/minecraft-qr about FOSS stuff I work on and ways I've managed to survive my gamedev degree on Linux. Aiming for one post per month, though my next one is taking a bit longer.

Cool! Might make me reconsider the next laptop I get. The all-AMD Zephyrus G14 I currently run has been an awful experience (overheating after 15min of gaming, random iGPU freezes, fTPM stuttering, no video accel on Wayland, HDMI is broken, wifi randomly stops working, and mic disappears on 99% of boots), and I was looking to replace it with an Nvidia laptop, but maybe Tuxedo can fix these issues on their own hardware and make AMD viable.

I've really enjoyed using PINE64 products. I use the excellent Pinecil soldering iron which is fully open source. I used a PineTime smartwatch until I got it water damaged (rip) which was a ton of fun to use. I have a pair of PineBuds wireless earbuds (default firmware is not open because of proprietary ANC, but last time I checked this is being worked on). I can't speak for their laptops or phones, but I can definitely recommend the devices I do use if you're willing to get involved in the community to work through and fix some of the existing issues.
