Nothing short of hard financial and/or legal ramifications will stifle this kind of election interference. If it's not stopped now, it will take root and fester.

Next school year, my son will be left home after school for a few hours while my wife and I are at work. I'm looking for a way to detect when he's home and have the front door unlock (among other automation scripts that are in place).

I came across this post and was going to get the Tile Pro as it seemed to check off all my requirements:

  • I could put it in his backpack where it can be forgotten.
  • long battery life.
  • Through the Home Assistant integration, it can trigger when it gets in range.
  • It also has a few other beneficial things, so I was thinking of putting one on each of our bicycles in case they're ever stolen. Hell, I could look into putting one on my cat's collar in case she ever gets out.

Then I came across some concerning articles regarding data harvesting. The whole reason I started self-hosting was to prevent data harvesting, so it seems like the Tile is a non-starter for me.

Has anyone been in this (or a similar) situation? Mainly, I'm looking for a device I can put in my son's backpack that can trigger when he's within range, so the house will open for him. BLE seems like it might be a solution, though I run my server on an old Dell r720 enterprise server in my basement, so I don't currently have Bluetooth functionality (and it's pretty far away from the front door, 20+ feet), though getting that is not a dealbreaker for me.

  • Addendum: To people saying just get a key: we have a key for him. I have a monolith sized server in my basement that automates most everything in my house these days, and was curious if anyone had set up something similar to what I was thinking. Home automation is very much a hobby, and I'm using it to learn new things.

To steal a quote: America is the land of gun care and health control.

My "heritage" involves kicking the shit out of their "heritage." Perhaps I should honor mine?

To be fair, he was supposed to put up over $400 million to prevent asset forfeiture with a hard deadline. He ended up posting bond for about a quarter of that, nearly a month after the deadline with no consequences.

A lot of people are rightfully skeptical that he'll never face consequences for his illegal acts.

Keep in mind, under the U.S. House's new bill, criticizing this counts as antisemitism.

I remember the first time I successfully landed on the moon and brought my kerbals back. It was one of my most cathartic experiences.

It's sad to see the sequel get abandoned like this.

This program was doing a good thing for the environment. It has long-lasting benefits for everyone. This is heartbreaking.

US needs to regulate chargers.

100%. This should have been addressed years ago, honestly. No one would tolerate VW only being able to gas up at Shell stations due to different nozzles. This is no different.

This is a death sentence for Tesla. I have a Model 3 that I enjoy despite its shortcomings. One of the deciding factors was the supercharger network. It's the easiest system I've used for charging. It makes all other networks infuriating in comparison.

A lot of people get Teslas for the ease of charging alone. If the network starts to falter, people will leave the brand even faster than they already are.

Tesla really needs to vote this idiot out of the CEO position before he kills the company.

Going by what's in the article, which, admittedly, isn't a lot, I think this is more a case of negligence. Anyone who dies in a prison is automatically autopsied. In order for a heart to be a viable transplant organ, the donor must be in a brain-dead state while still receiving life sustaining care. Even a few hours deceased is enough to make a heart non-viable (though apparently this is becoming less true!).

The much more likely answer, is either the autopsy surgeon or an autopsy tech threw the heart out in standard biohazard waste. Still disgusting, uncaring behavior, but until more evidence comes out, I'd say this isn't malicious.

All that said, the Alabama Correctional Prison System is terribly corrupt, so it wouldn't take a lot to change my mind.

I love my Model 3, but everything you said is spot on. Autopilot is a great driver assist, but it is nowhere near autonomous driving. I was using it on the highway and was passing a truck on the left. The road veered left and the truck did as well, keeping in its lane the entire time. The car interpreted this as the truck merging over into my lane and slammed the brakes. Fortunately, I was able to figure out what went wrong and quickly accelerated myself so as to not become a hazard to the cars behind me.

Using Autopilot as anything more than a nice dynamic cruise control setting is putting your life, and other lives, in danger.
