Is there a way to block meta in lemmy? Im in the lemmy.world instance, or is it up to the developers and maintainers of each lemmy instance?

I didn't even sign up, I just wanted to see what it was all about, whining about politics and general madness, just like twitter, not for me, so I didn't end up signing

Were talking about meta here, this is a bait and switch attempt (I see it that way)

They launch their new twitter competitor, everyone moves over to their new twitter clone, they will try and hold the power on standarts of federation (like any big tech corporation that has a smaller rival that succedes more then them, see microsoft vs netscape for refrence)

If they will fail with that, they will try to seduce lemmy and mastodon instaces with monetization and big money handouts, were talking about facebook here after all, they are not short of scummy tactics

This is a reminder to lemmy users, that this new meta expriement will use the ActivityPub protocol, meaning that it can interact with other lemmy instances, please urge your lemmy instance admins to de-federate from this crap as soon as it launches!

Mastodon seems to become yet another rage cage like twitter, first thing I saw when I opened it yesterday was people bitching about politics, that's a BIG nope for me

I saw a while back that facebook is opening a twitter competitor which will use the ActivityPub protocol, and thus will be able to federate with other fediverse instances, I also saw they invited some fediverse instance admins for an "off the records" meeting in their HQ.

Question is, what is the general stance on this? Because I despise facebook with every fiber of my being, and would very much like to NOT have facebook lurk around these parts, as I understand there is an option to de-federate them like what happened with the exploading heads instance.

Infinity for reddit user here, as much as I love the app, and the work the developer has done on it, and even though the app will continue on a subscription based model, I have had it with reddit, full fediverse citizen from now on
