Considering the fact that uranium prices have been shooting up for the past year, the fact that this mine has been sitting idle until last week was seen by Niger as an indicator that the French were snubbing Nigerien uranium (that could have generated jobs, tax revenues, etc.).

Good move by Niger imo

In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any “collateral damage” during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.

Any sale of a hundred+ billion dollar company takes years. Look at the attempted acquisition of ARM.

This is... Absurd? It seems like as time has gone on, NASA has progressively shifted towards an outsourcing model for more and more of its programs.

This model obviously explodes costs, which don't help NASA's shoestring budget. But even in that context, this sounds absurd.

China's exports to the West (as a proportion of the total) has been shrinking: most recently, it was reported that China now exports more to the Global South than to all developed countries combined.

This is, in large part, as China also pursues "friendshoring" by offshoring labour-intensive manufacturing to countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and recently even considering expansion to Mexico.

"It is not possible for the Bretton Woods institutions, World Bank, IMF [International Monetary Fund], and so many other financial institutions to continue operating as if nothing were happening in the world, as if everything were resolved," he said.

"Many times institutions lend money not with the aim of saving the country borrowing the money but to pay off debt, and not to produce a productive asset, demonstrating that there is no contribution to saving the lives of countries," added the president.

Historical context:

After the invasion of Kuwait crisis in 1990, Yemen's president opposed military intervention from non-Arab states. As a member of the United Nations Security Council for 1990 and 1991, Yemen abstained on a number of UNSC resolutions concerning Iraq and Kuwait and voted against the "...use of force resolution." The vote outraged the U.S. Saudi Arabia expelled 800,000 Yemenis in 1990 and 1991 to punish Yemen for its opposition to the intervention.
