This outcome is welcome progress, but I get the sense that it's only a drop in the bucket.

Bullying and intimidating people in other countries who openly contradict the CCP's narrative seems widespread these days. From the news reports of unofficial Chinese "police stations" in North America, to youtube footage of US students speaking in support of an independent Hong Kong while Chinese students aggressively maneuver within inches of their faces while shouting threats, to the story in this post.

I hope this is a sign that we are finally taking action to stop it.

Please let Geralt have responsive movement and sensible object targeting this time.

Part of what I value in F-Droid is the additional layer in the build/release process, because it makes tampering more likely to be detected.

It's still nice to know a tool like obtanium exists, though. Thanks for the link.

Signal gets some things right, but others wrong, such as phone numbers and centralized architecture. As such, it doesn't fit the "everybody wants to use" part.

Practically speaking, it's a replacement for both PulseAudio and JACK, and provides multimedia plumbing for app container systems like Flatpak.

So… it’s not Starcraft, then.

I think Starcraft has enough story and character development by now that its identity is more than just the mechanics that it started with.

It’s just another game.

It would still be a Starcraft game. If we were to ignore the lore and only consider the RTS format, then even the first Starcraft was "just another game". Those mechanics weren't unique or new.

Similarly, World of Warcraft is still a Warcraft game, even though it's hung on a different framework from the original.

Americans tend to be pushy and, well, stupid in foreign lands.

Unpleasant people stand out, so they're the ones we notice. They make an impression, so they're the ones we remember. This is true of tourists from all over the world, from America to China.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that most are respectful, but end up either unnoticed or forgotten.

One larynx also underwent standard histological analysis, while another was CT scanned.

Also known as a computed axial tomography scan, or CAT scan. :)

We are all in Stallman's debt for his foresight and work on Free software, and especially for the GPL. Even so, I find this particular self-promotion campaign to be overreaching, unnecessary, tedious, and shrill.

So no, I will not call it GNU/Linux, except perhaps in a tiny minority of cases where GNU is actually present and clarification is actually needed.

People who interject with or insist on it are just adding noise to the conversation.

(Context: I haven't read the manga, and have only seen a couple of the anime episodes.)

The live action is goofy, unpolished, sometimes awkward, and in some ways looks like a low-budget college production. But it also has a kind of genuine charm that I don't see every day. Luffy in particular was very well cast, IMHO.

I kind of love it.

The same “API” would be just as good over olde-schoole FTP instead of HTTPS.

I can't agree with this, because FTP uses separate connections for requests and data, making it significantly more complicated than a single-connection protocol. (Note especially that the conventional default is for the remote host to initiate the second channel, so the requestor must also listen for and accept incoming connections!) If you want to stay old-school, the Finger protocol would be a better example of the point you're trying to make.

Practically speaking, though, HTTPS was an excellent choice here. It provides an appropriate level of data authenticity without needlessly complicating things, and easy-to-use implementations are ubiquitous.
